Comments:  Thank you for the immensely valuable work you have put into "Hindu Wisdom". Your website is an excellent source of information on the rich, vibrant cultures of India. I feel that it will help rectify the misunderstanding and indeed willful misrepresentation of Hindu culture, history and religion both in the West and also among the increasingly Westernized and alienated people who have been "educated" in India itself in modern times. As India becomes a technological superpower, her people must not lose themselves in the superficialities of materialism and "progress". Long may the ancient dharma of India prosper and prevail. Long may the spirit that has guided her shine as a beacon to seekers of truth and enlightenment throughout the world. For your interest, I publish two sites dedicated to aspects of Indian culture, namely truthstar.com and naadi-shastra.com. Many blessings.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your kind compliments on this website and for sharing your thoughts on the relevance of Hindu culture as well as the information regarding your websites. Warm regards).

Comments:  Dear Madam, Thanx for listening to my suggestions. Please don’t use the word Aryan as it may cause a lot of intricacies. I know you mean noble but ...... I hope you understand also change names like Kailash(Hindi) to Kailasa (samskrutam) if possible add phonetic symbols. This will increase understanding and appeal. Jayati Jayati Bharatha Matha!

Comments:  Priye Sushmaji; Not being a good writer or orator I am not able to express exactly how overwhelmed I feel going through your site. (I feel as if my thoughts, feelings and long cherished desire to know our (Hindu) history, culture, traditions and contributions in various fields of human, experiences and dreams are being put by you through your work). Having no knowledge of your line of work, career or your background I still admire your work and wish great success. Would also like to know if some thought have been given to Correct the the works and wrong translations and interpretations of Western authors (and so called Authorities of Hindu history, religion and culture) or even the works of Indian writers who following the Western authors (so called Masters of Sanskrit language) mainly because easy access to Hindu scriptures through medium. Or what a simple Hindu layman can do in this regard. It is painful not to find true history and religion of Hinduism when looking for the ancient history of world civilization. Kindly, ignore if my thoughts are way off and not appropriate for your present mandate. Kindest regards. (I am most fortunate to bump into your Wonderful site.) - BB.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your sincere words of appreciation for this website. It is sentiments like yours that has kept this site going for many years. Comments:  Dear Ms Londhe, Thanks for compiling such a wonderful fountain of knowledge in the website. I had chanced into this website through another link. As most of the users comment, one thread leads to another till you start craving for more. I like one more aspect; please continue presenting the facts from our rich Sanatana / Vedic history without jingoism and without deriding other cultures. Kudos to you and your team for this commendable site. Warm regards, Satya.

Comments:  Your work on this site is highly commendable. I liked your in-depth study of Hindu and Indian culture. Please send me some more information on Vimanas as their description is sort of short and general. I also think you could do more to show the underlying unity between the Indo-European and Indo-Iranian (Dardic) languages. However you have done a very good analysis of our culture and provided much research material for the book I am writing "Philosiphae Inde" which will be out by end of next year. I will not forget to mention your name.

Comments:  I bumped into your site by accident while surfing the web. I read one item, then another and another. I got hooked, and then spent hours poring thru it. Fascinating stuff you have there. A wonderful web site. PS: Some trivia: I grew up in Africa as a privileged white British Colonial child. Our British schools taught us the British version of their occupation of India. They never mentioned that India was the most prosperous nation and had the highest standard of living in the world when the British arrived. They never mentioned that it was the British who stripped it bare and destroyed it so totally that it became the poorest country in the world.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your kind words of appreciation for this website as well as for sharing your thoughts on the British version of history taught in Africa. Warm regards).

Comments:  Thank you for this site. I have been drawn to Hinduism most of my life, (perhaps as a result of past life experiences), and have often been ashamed of the media in the US, for ignorantly perpetuating insulting falsehoods about Hinduism. Your site will give me added information to counter the ignorance in person and by e-mail. Again, thank you.

Comments:  Splendid work. I know it is a pain staking work. But in the interest of Hinduism it was much needed. The foot prints or the sway of Hinduism across the globe should have been found much more importance. Some light on the works of Kalidasa, Bharavi, Maagha would have been appropriate. All in all it is a superb study and presentation. But there is always a better way.

Comments:  Namaskar, I am a reconvert back to Hinduism from Islam and I am Yogi or trying to be one. I worship Brahman through Krishna. Please explain who the Trimurti is. To my understanding they are Devatas who achieved union with Brahman. Anyways I also did my first Pooja in my first ever visit to Mandir and Pooja is good because Yoga is very hard to do. But I have put my kids in Yoga classes to get them addicted to it. My email is pawar28@hotmail.com

Comments:  Namaste Sushmaji. Thank you for your response on the chapter on Vimanas. In your response, you made several points in regards to Vimanas and I do not see how they relate. Your mentioning of the war of The Mahabharata and a possible nuclear holocaust or weapons of mass destruction could be a reason for the destruction of such Vimanas is an assumption that still does not prove anything. The so called hit of an asteroid that brought the last ice age and destruction of almost all life on this planet several million years ago and the most recent ice age was 10.000 years ago left a lot of evidence for the scientists to study, I am sure the weapons that we assume of The Mahabharata were of much lower destruction capacity compared to the asteroid power. If, we say there were mega weapons of such devastation than there must have been massive production plants. The Zero that we gave to the rest of civilization was a real boon to the whole world and it thrived in numbers and calculations, fine and the computers that we use are because of the zero so very true, but lot more goes inside a computer than just a Zero. It is a product of electronic inventions carried out by many western scientists some of whom were not too educated. We were advanced in numerical work, cosmology, archaeology, religious philosophy, herbal medicine and lot more and no one can doubt that. India of those days was full of riches and wealth that attracted Mohammadans first and slaughtered their way to take power from our fragmented Bharat. Then was the turn of the Europeans and who through their cunning and administrative skills took over from the Muslim rulers (May be if the British did not take over we would still be slaving under the dhimmitude of Islam).

Comments:  Dear Sushmaji. I admire your compilation of this vast Vedic knowledge but the chapter on Vimanas does not wash. Collection of details from Vedic literature and relating it to modern sciences is fine, but an archeological find has never been unearthed. If sciences were so advanced in ancient India, why were we so poorly until the beginning of the last century?

Comments:  Dear Sushmaji, If you are calling this venerable site "Hindu wisdom" then why in Lord Rama's name are you stating these blasphemous words in your section on Hindu Vimanas namely "So called Ramayana". If you do not believe in Lord Rama then you have no business to write about its virtues. I do not mean that you have to be fanatically inclined, but your sub-consciousness should reflect this singular belief in what you profess.

(Editor’s Note: Hindu Wisdom is a resource of collected and cataloged information from various sources. This site categorically says so at the very outset. The information that you have referred to in the chapter on Vimanas are NOT my words. They are from D. Hatcher Childress book, "Ancient Indian Aircraft Technology" In the Anti-Gravity Handbook in which he refers to the so-called ‘Rama Empire’ of Northern India. And yes I do profess a deep and abiding belief in the grand epic of Ramayana and Lord Rama. I hope this answers your doubts and your queries. Warm regards).

Comments:  I continue to learn about Hinduism everyday. Through this website alone, I learn so many different aspects and histories, that I would have never known in my life without it. Not only is it helpful to keep me intact with my culture, it has helped me to create a new identity for myself and positive attitude towards those who share these traits. I often use this web site as a reference to answer any question in my mind that decides it needs to be answered. It also creates new thoughts and views I could never phantom. Creating pride and acknowledging the amount of history Hinduism has, it would be almost impossible to learn it all. Yet, even when reading something fully and reading it again some time later, I find information that I missed the first time around and even changing some point of views I may have had. Adding to just how complex this fascination can get.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts about this website. Glad to know that this website has helped you in many ways to appreciate and learn about Hinduism and Indic culture. Warm regards).

Comments:  All Proud Indians and The Descendants: I very strongly urge everyone to use the name Gunga instead of Ganges. Gunga is absolutely a beautiful name. Ganges never was the name of our holy river. We restored the name Mumbai which was corrupted by English (because their abiltiy to pronounce many syllables is severely limited) to Bombay. Calcutta now is Kolkutta. Baroda is now Vadodara. All these and many more names were changed by English rulers to make them palatable to their inflexible tongue. This posting is not meant to bash them. Its goal is to restore the truth. I suggest that many references made on this website to Gunga as Ganges in Sunskrut to English translation be changed to Gunga (with Ganges in paranthesis for reference). Once again, Gunga is a beautiful name, and Ganges is not.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you for your suggestions. I will make the changes to these in the near future. I agree that Gunga sounds much more beautiful than Ganges. Besides the names that you have mentioned, there are many other cities in India that need change. Cities such as Osamanabad, Vasco da Gama, Aurangabad, Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Nizamabad, Ahmednagar and so on. These are symbols of tyranny and subjugation. They reflect the fanaticism of the Muslim onslaught and European imperialism on India. There is nothing glorious or historic about them. Warm regards).

Comments:  Namaste Dear Sushmaji, Thank You so much for responding to my e-mail. While it would be too much to expect the powerful organisations or Governments to change anything, I feel we should all just start referring to ourselves as Sanatani on a personal level. I already have. I follow Vedanta and try to read up and understand as much as possible. Only when I have to fill up forms where I am expected to tick the religion column do I say I am a Hindu. I believe that gradually things could change! I feel that speaking to others in their language just to make yourself understood is a bit like speaking to children in their lisping style, to use a simple analogy. If one is not careful both the child and parent forget the proper way of speaking! Plus if others want to communicate with us they will make the effort to use the correct words and terminology, if they are not deficient in some way. Otherwise how else will we gain any respect! Once again thank you very much. Your website is the magnet that links us all together. With Fond Regards.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you once again for voicing your astute insight regarding the correct use and terminology of Hinduism. I will try to make some changes in the future updates to some chapters. Warm Regards).

Comments:  Unbelievable. I was looking for words to express my thoughts on Hinduism. The main snafu was my inability to translate experience and way of life into appropriate words. How can my experience be translated into something that other person will comprehend? What words and phrases should I use? I found them on this Website. I shall cherish it and visit it many times in the future.

Comments:  Dear Sushama: What happened at Virginia Tech is a tragedy of immense proportions. There are no easy answers. If anyone has tears, this is the time to shed. Life is indeed very fragile and there are no easy answers to complex problems. As Lord Krishna stated in the Bhagavad Gita, "Agama payino, anithya" everything in life comes and goes and it never stays at the same level all the time. That is the nature of things and we have no control of that. What happened is the result of the foolish action of a deranged person and it has anything to do with Karma. All those whose lives were prematurely extinguished before their time were just people standing at the wrong place at the wrong time. We have to pray as well as console each other. We should specially pray for students at Virginia Tech and their families, who are very much effected by this tragedy.

(Editor’s Note: Dear Ed, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and wisdom about this immense tragedy that unfolded at Virginia Tech. It is a time to pray for all the victims and their families as well as to reflect on the fragility and complexity of human existence. Warm regards).

Comments:  What an enlightenment this accidental reading has been! I agree that it is a high time we Hindus, reclaim for all our knowledge, and the copycat mass plagiarism committed by the world. I am a Brahmin and extremely proud to be a Brahmin. My name means those who have mastered two Vedas are called du=2 and ve short for Vedas. I do not know anything about Vedas, but will definitely learn about Vedas and Upanishads at some stage. You are quite right in saying that Indians always downplay our achievements, because we are very humble people, the very motto of our culture is, 'vydiah vinay shobhte' (sorry can’t remember exactly) meaning that knowledge glows with humility. Hindus knew that it is the sun the centre of the universe, as we have the sun God carrying 9 planets on his chariot, and we write a whole life's predictions in janmakshar based on planetary calculations, the papacy in Vatican believed that earth was the centre of the universe, and Galileo almost lost his life for even suggesting the truth. Christians did not permit any freedom among any intellectuals. Also Latin derives from Sanskrit. Nam, or namah in Sanskrit became name, aggression derives from oogra, and we have a name of an angry king called oograsen. How cool is that? 'Jai Hind'

Comments:  Sushamaji, Thanks for this wonderful site. I am proud of being born in India and into this religion (Sanatana Dharma). I have been spreading the word about this site among family and friends and they are awestruck by this site very much. There are so many things many of us did not know. I sometimes despair about the denigration of Sanatan Dharma that happens in India now, which was the cradle of all Dharmic religions especially among political classes and secularists who are bent on appeasing Muslims, Christians. Do you think there will be a day when Bharat gains its past glory?

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your compliments and to help spread the word about this website. Sri Aurobindo had written that “India of the ages is not dead nor has she spoken her last creative word.” Hopefully there will be a day when Bharat will regain its past glory. Warm regards).

Comments:  I stumbled upon this site from a Google search. I've been wrestling thoughts in my head about religion for quite some time. I am Catholic but stopped attending mass years ago. I still wrestle with my conscious if this is the right move. I come from a very religious family on both my mother and father's side (particularly my father's). I must admit that through my Catholic upbringing, teachings from Catholic schools and church I have always got the message that it is more important to be charitable and good to people and to go the extra mile to help thy neighbour. Perhaps those who have had to suffer at the hands of Christianity in the past or today can take some solace in this. I have a deep interest in religion and find it shocking yet interesting what people have done in the name of religion, particularly the growing extremism in Islam today. I think reading what Hindus have had to suffer at the hands of Muslims and Christians yet maintain a pacifist nature is remarkable and tipped the scales in my decision as to whether I should start attending mass again. I believe it is better to listen to one's conscious and forget about religion. Religion (especially the "big 3"; Judaism, Christianity and Islam) have caused this world more bad than good. They brainwash their followers to act out evil yet be justified while the moderates try to feebly claim its’ not the true message and they don't represent them. Disturbingly, vast numbers of Christians supported the violent actions carried out in its "evangelist" activities of the past. They were "saving" and "civilizing" the world. Muslims are no better: A tidal wave of extremism is sweeping it today and corrupting its followers. Their unbelievable barbarity, hypocrisy and self-denial allow them to carry out violence on a global scale against all "non-believers" backed up by plenty of quotes either directly or misquoted from their Koran. Yet, after all this "religion bashing" on my part, it was reading briefly about Hinduism that led me to this view that I should unshackle myself from the rigid rules of religion and just be a good person. Perhaps if I haven't lost total faith in religion I may return to it and learn much more about Hinduism. Thank-you.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations. Best wishes on your spiritual quest. Warm regards).

Comments:  Dear Sushmaji, For this wonderful effort I feel you deserve some international award, if you do not have one already. I also feel that since the words Hindu and Hinduism were chiefly used by the others to describe us, we should stop describing ourselves as such. For example, the English are referred to as the Angrez in some Indian languages, but they do not refer to themselves like that! I feel that words are powerful and while Bharat may have got its’ freedom, there is still a long way to go. People such as Sikhs, Harijans, Buddhists and some trouble mongers etc. need to be made aware that they are not different or a separate religion, and this can be possible if everyone just refers to themselves as Sanatani perhaps, belonging to the one Sanatan Dharma. This will foster unity among other things. Would you like to share your opinion on this? Thank you for giving me this treasure house of knowledge and the opportunity to express my thoughts.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you for your kind compliments on this website and for sharing your thoughtful observations regarding Hinduism. For many decades now Santan Dharma has been known as ‘Hinduism’ in our textbooks and other literature around the globe; it will have to be sweeping change made by all Hindu organizations and the Government of India at the highest level regarding this nomenclature to be really effective. In turn these changes can then be reflected on the Internet and countless other websites. I do agree with your sentiments, Indic faiths are facing a grave danger today from dogmatic creeds that are bent on destroying everything that has sprouted organically from Bharat. In order to foster unity, all Dharmic people, Sikhs, Harijans, Buddhists, Jains, need to get over their petty differences to ensure survival of our unique cultural identity for the future generations. Warm regards).

Comments:  Excellent job! First of all I am really proud of You. I am one of the Indian youth from Kerala now (working as a graphic designer), proud to be an Indian and proud to be a Hindu, but mostly ignorant about its traditions and philosophies. I saw this site when I was searching for the details of Sivaji Maharaj. Congratulations and admiration to all those who have done this laudable work. I will keep this site as my favorite one.
