The Plunder of India - The Stink of Corruption rocks India

The Empire of Corruption strikes back on Yoga Guru!

What happened in the night of June 4 at Ramlila Maidan resembled a scene straight out of Macbeth. No Hindu king or ruler, not even Kamsa and Ravana, has gone so far as to use force of arms against defenseless, sleeping women and children.

This is a familiar demoniac Abrahamic characteristic which the Christian and non-Muslim world has seen and experienced both in historical and contemporary times.

If Digvijay Singh’s opening statement to the media soon after Sonia Gandhi pushed the button on his back were to be carried to its logical conclusion, then from the fact that Baba Ramdev was arrested in the thick of the night, proves that the Congress is not simply afraid but terrified of what Sonia Gandhi thinks Baba Ramdev represents and symbolizes. The midnight assault on Ramlila Maidan has stripped naked Sonia Gandhi’s ill-concealed and demoniac ambition to rule a country not her own at any cost; it also revealed that someone close to her in government was determined that she will not be allowed to succeed, and in the process exposed to the discerning eye the deep divide between the Prime Minister and his imported boss lady.

While it is imperative for the nation’s collective conscience to be merciless towards Sonia Gandhi and her repeated Italian Mafioso methods to deal with a citizenry not impressed and even affronted by the colour of her skin...

This small group working from behind Baba Ramdev ought to have known that arraigned on the other side was not Sonia Gandhi the individual, but the Generic Church. The formidable Generic Church (American and European governments, American and European churches, the Vatican and World Council of Churches) stands behind Sonia Gandhi, equipped with all instruments of state, including weapons of war, and creatures of their making - pan-national and international structures and organizations (United Nations; International Court of Justice, The Hague; The International Criminal Court; Human Rights Watch; Amnesty International; Red Cross; American think-tanks) making Sonia Gandhi almost invincible. But the group behind Baba Ramdev in choosing not to seek organizational or any other back up support, thought they could get Baba Ramdev to mobilize people to Delhi in tens of thousands by hiding from public view and directing the movement insultingly from the shadows and over the cellular phone.

Sonia Gandhi’s handlers can front her in the war to conquer India without soiling their coattails and without entering the battlefield because Sonia Gandhi has the entire spittle-licking Congress as slave labour to do her bidding; not to forget since 2004, every VVIP sitting in every single high democratic institution in the country Rashtrapati Bhavan downwards, is personally beholden to Sonia Gandhi for his or her current high profile and privileged status. These individuals as price for their undeserved elevation have allowed Sonia Gandhi to tie strings to their fingers and toes, while they themselves are not allowed even an involuntary twitch of muscle or nerve.

Every intelligent and politically conscious Hindu must question those individuals who dragged Baba Ramdev to do politics, for publicly and humiliatingly letting down Baba Ramdev, and all those Hindus who had gathered faithfully at Ramlila Maidan on 3rd and 4th June, and all those Hindus who thought (and wrongly thought) that this was some great Hindu awakening.

The war to protect the Hindu Nation from Sonia Gandhi’s Christian colonial rule cannot be fought, much less won without a battle plan, and certainly not by standing script in hand in the wings of the dais. War is not theatre. But was this group in fact waging war against Sonia Gandhi and for the Hindu Nation? It would seem not, considering that they are nowhere to be seen or heard since the 4th of June.

Sonia Gandhi’s determination to plant loyalists in every single constitutional and administrative position in the country:

-        The rise of Christian Chief Ministers

-        The rise of Christian aspirants for 7, Race Course Road

-        The growing visibility of Christians in all important positions within the Congress party

-        The craven and cowardly submission of all English print and electronic media to the Pompadour’s will

-        The relentless mission of all denominations of the Church to end Hindu religion in its own bhumi

-        UPA Government-driven empowerment of the Abrahamic minorities in all spheres of public life

-        The unending infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims into the country

Every one of these issues is linked directly either to the rise of Sonia Gandhi in India’s polity, or to foreign money coming into the country. In short, the rise of Sonia Gandhi in India’s polity can be traced to the Generic Church’s politco-religious agenda for Asia. China, South Korea, Japan and India are the prime targets in the Generic Church’s quest for world domination. South Korea is already Christian-majority, Japan has been irreversibly Christianised in its collective mind; China and India alone remain the last bastion against the Abrahamic onslaught.

On the first day, the Prime Minister sent four Cabinet Ministers, including Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, to receive Baba Ramdev at the airport. This was civilisationally the correct thing to do and the country heaved a sigh of relief. The Prime Minister is a Sikh and after he is done with being Prime Minister, he has to go back to being a disciplined soldier of the Sikh faith and answerable to the Akal Takht

The Prime Minister is certain to have remembered the chastening experience of the incumbent Governor of Tamil Nadu and former Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri S.S. Barnala, who was made to sit in the Golden Temple for ten days and as an act of penitence, cleaning the shoes of bhaktas entering the precincts.

The writer is deeply grateful to the SGPC for asking a highly respected Sikh lawyer in the Supreme Court to withdraw from the case against Pujya Kanchi Mathathipathi. This lawyer was engaged by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa; and bhaktas of the Kanchi matham owe an eternal debt of gratitude to this lawyer who abided by the diktat of Sikhism’s highest religious body and refused to proceed with the case. This single act by the Sikh lawyer of refusing to be a part of this aasuric act in total obedience to his religious leaders

dramatically altered the then prevalent mood in the Madras High Court and in the Supreme Court, and public opinion changed decisively against the Tamil Nadu government.

This country is driven by the tapasya of our dharmic gurus and sanyasis; Dr. Manmohan Singh knew this and therefore sent four ministers to meet with Baba Ramdev; Sonia Gandhi and her spittle-lickers know this too, and that is why an emergency meeting was convened the next day at the Prime Minister’s residence and this time Sonia Gandhi presided over the meeting with P. Chidambaram and A.K. Anthony in tow.

After this meeting at Number 7, Race Course Road, everything changed. Four ministers became two ministers and on the second day no ministers at all, only government representatives.

The Generic Church stepped in with full might. What was at stake was Hindu India with all its magnificent natural resources; at stake was the vast potential harvest of Hindu souls for Christ and the oil and diamonds, gold and other minerals, the vastly promising perennial rivers and abundant sunshine – all up for grabs.

The Generic Church could not have a Hindu sanyasi threatening Sonia Gandhi and in the process unravelling their plot to eventually control and rule India. And so the resistance had to be broken and broken both insultingly and brutally. This was not Jallianwala Bagh; this was 1909 – the year the British government ruthlessly removed Aurobindo, Tilak and Savarkar, three towering Hindu nationalists from the polity, to facilitate Gandhi taking over the Congress after his rather hasty departure from South Africa. It speaks volumes for the knowledge that Hindus have of their own history, that while people compared what happened on June 4 to the Emergency and Jallianwala Bagh, no one saw it as a replay of 1909.

The year 1909 saw the full might of state breaking the backbone of Hindu nationalism; Sonia Gandhi was made to do the same by her handlers. They knew 1909 only too well and therefore knew exactly how to deal with it. It is frightening to know that even intelligent and political Hindus still do not know 1909; and those who knew did not prepare themselves or the Hindu community to meet a similar eventuality and once again, ordinary Hindus were let down by their leaders.

Sonia Gandhi’s handlers would have known that the RSS and BJP top brass would not be in Delhi that night and that is why Sonia Gandhi sent the Delhi Police to Ramlila Maidan even as the Prime Minister’s emissaries were still negotiating with Baba Ramdev.

The Prime Minister may also not be in a position to tell us why, if he was engaging Baba Ramdev by day, Sonia Gandhi had to arrest him at night. The Prime Minister is also not in a position to tell us why, if on the one hand he conducts himself with correctness and accords Hindu sanyasis the high respect that is due to them, Rahul Gandhi’s spittle-licking Digvijay Singh is allowed to run amok enraging Hindus and offending Hindu sensibilities.

This brutal mission of arresting Baba Ramdev and forcibly throwing him out of Delhi and evicting hapless men, women and children, could not have been undertaken during daytime without a violent backlash from the people; that is why in true Gestapo style, in a style befitting the Italian Mafioso and Stalinist Russia, 50,000 Hindus gathered at Ramlila Maidan could be brutalised and dispersed only in the dead of the night.

The fact that Hindus will step out of their homes at the call of their religious leaders or to the call of a Hindu cause, is the biggest reason to hope that this war is not over yet. The RSS, the BJP, and our religious leaders must sit down and first acknowledge collectively that Sonia Gandhi and the Generic Church pose the biggest threat to this nation and the quantum of foreign money which the Generic Church is pouring into the country and Sonia Gandhi’s politics of minority-ism have to be fought with the full might of Hindu power.

The Hindu Nation is losing its people and its territory to the Church and Islam.

All three forces have to come together to combat the Generic Church. This cannot be done by our religious leaders without the RSS’ organizing capacity; this cannot be done by the RSS alone without the BJP’s political delivery mechanism and the sanctity and mobilising capacity of our religious leaders, and this cannot be done by the BJP alone without the moral authority of the RSS and the spiritual and religious authority of our sanyasis, Gurus and Acharyas.

We cannot allow individuals to launch nation-wide movements without preparation and without nationalism. It is not enough for the RSS to merely extend ‘support’ to our religious leaders when they step forward to take up a national cause. This is akin to outside support extended by irresponsible political parties and politicians to any government. The RSS must openly take the lead and forge a proactive and invincible partnership with the BJP and our religious leaders if Hindu India must be saved from going the way of South Korea now, and East Timor and The Philippines before that. The synergy of Hindu religious leaders, RSS and BJP must –

-        Demand stopping all foreign money from coming into India. Hindu religious leaders and Hindu organizations receiving foreign money must also be prepared to do without it, because money coming to Christian and Muslim groups is the single most destructive power threatening Hindu religion

-        Bring down the UPA government at the earliest

-        Remove Sonia Gandhi permanently from the political arena, and if possible mount a campaign why any member of this family poses the same threat

Sonia Gandhi is the most detested person in the country today. Our religious leaders, the RSS and the BJP must ensure she does not rise again. The time to remove her forcibly from the political arena like she removed Pujya Kanchi Periava and Baba Ramdev is now. It’s payback time for the Congress and its imported usurper. Dr. Manmohan Singh may yet be called to account by the Akal Takht. He should now do what he can to make the Akal Takht look more kindly upon him.

If Ramlila Maidan showed us our weaknesses, it also showed us what is possible, and that should bring the Hindu nation together to combat the Generic Church.

Stupid is as Stupid does?
Ignorance, Intolerance and Arrogance

Mahatma Gandhi, a devout Hindu, who employed nonviolent civil disobedience to lead India to independence after more than a century of British rule, was posthumously baptized by proxy by a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Helen Radkey, a former Mormon who has until now has focused on researching incidents of proxy baptisms being proposed for or performed on dead Jews, discovered the Gandhi records on February 16 in a genealogical database restricted to Mormons.

Arun Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi said he was "surprised" to hear about the posthumous baptism. "It bothers me in the sense that people are doing something when a person is dead and gone and there is nobody to answer for that person. That’s not the right thing to do," said Gandhi, an activist who teaches nonviolence. He also noted that his grandfather was against proselytizing of any kind, whether it involved Hindus or others.

Hindus do not mark death as the end of existence but rather believe that the soul is reincarnated into different physical bodies through cycles of birth and death. To perform proxy baptism to a Hindu is "deeply offensive" because of the belief in rebirth, said Suhag Shukla, co-founder of the Hindu American Foundation and now its managing director and legal counsel.

"Each of us is innately divine, which is diametrically opposed to this concept that we are innately sinful and needing to accept Jesus as our savior in order to cleanse our soul," she said in an interview. "We do not believe there is only one way to salvation."

The history of British colonialism in India was inextricably tied to Christian missionaries who viewed Hindus and other non-Westerners as "heathens languishing in religions other than Christianity." She said many Hindus view missionaries -- whether Mormon or from other groups, as unwelcome "church-planting" operations.

"The irony is that Mahatma had some very specific criticisms about conversion and missionary activities, or "predatory proselytization,"

Last week, teen diarist and symbol of the Holocaust
Anne Frank had been baptized this month for at least the ninth time since she died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945. Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Weisel, who is still alive, also was targeted for "posthumous" baptism, as were the murdered parents of Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal.

Inter-faith Dialogue: What’s in it for Hindus? - By Sandhya Jain

Dr. Koenraad Elst (1959 -) Dutch historian, born in Leuven, Belgium, on 7 August 1959, into a Flemish (i.e. Dutch-speaking Belgian) Catholic family. He graduated in Philosophy, Chinese Studies and Indo-Iranian Studies at the Catholic University of Leuven. He is the author of several books including The Saffron Swastika, Decolonising The Hindu Mind - Ideological Development of Hindu Revivalism and Negationism in India: Concealilng the Record of Islam and he has recently observed:

“Christianity is not as original as it flatters itself to be. Just as it is now widely accepted that the Old Testament has profusely borrowed from older Mesopotamian and Egyptian sources, the New Testament has likewise borrowed some of its core imagery and defining beliefs from the ambient Hellenistic-cosmopolitan culture and from the Indic teachings which had gained a certain popularity in the Eastern Mediterranean region.”

Christianity being a millenarian ideology aims at world dominion, at least since the time it established its headquarters in Rome in the early centuries after Christ. Former Canadian Protestant and now a Smarta Dashnami sanyasi, Swami Devananda Saraswati alias Ishwar Sharan, perceptively deems it to be a continuation of the Roman Empire under another name. Not too long ago, late Pope John Paul II asserted that the current mission of the Church was to spread Christianity in Asia in the third millennium, having conquered Europe in the first millennium and the Americas in the second.

With Australia already a White Christian majority continent, and Africa largely converted and badly brutalized, and the entire Muslim world under the White Man’s heel, India remains one of the few major civilisational hurdles left to conquer. It is no coincidence that India is a necessary staging post for any military action against
China and Russia!

It follows that Hindus in India will be making a grievous mistake if they buy into a motivated propaganda that the Church is not interested in converting the Hindu pagans and harvesting their souls, and rather cares for a genuine inter-faith dialogue in order to understand the Hindu dharmic spectrum better. Nothing could be further from the truth. What is undeniable is that as much of South East Asia has been christianised, India alone among major nations remains largely unconverted, and her living civilisation poses a constant challenge to the descendants of St. Peter.

India has hitherto withstood the missionary assault because of the devotion of the ordinary citizen, especially the denizens of villages and tribal hamlets, to their ancestral faith as represented by the grama devataskula devatas and sthana devatas who form a protective shield around their devotees and save them from harm. Then, there are the great gods in the larger temples and peeths and pilgrimages which gird the whole country in a protective grid, along with the spiritual strength and leadership of the traditional acharyas, gurus, mathams, and so on.

But the danger is by no means over and may be said to have increased in the light of new invasive techniques constantly put out by the church, massive funding by western Christian nations using conversions to control the populations in former colonies, and the recruitment of willing accomplices from the target nations and societies in order to make inroads therein.

(Note: The Uru Chipaya people of Bolivia - Its members belong to what is thought to be the oldest surviving culture in the Andes, a tribe that has survived for 4,000 years on the barren plains of the Bolivian interior. But the Uru Chipaya, who outlasted the Inca empire and survived the Spanish conquest, are warning that they now face extinction through climate change and conversion. Refer to The Uru Chipaya people of Bolivia: Conversion to Christianity).

There is also, thanks to the complicity of the secular state, much missionary-driven violence in remote tribal areas, such as the north eastern and eastern India (an issue we shall not dwell upon in this article).

The church has always moved in a planned manner. In 1539, the Society of Jesus was set up by St. Ignatius of Loyola to establish Catholicism all over the world, by any means. Hindu India suffered the
Goa Inquisition (1560) under the auspices of St. Francis Xavier. The latter was a founding member of the Jesuit order and initiator of the Inquisition in 1545. Italian Jesuit priest Roberto di Nobili, the first Jesuit to come to India, arrived in Goa in 1605 and then settled down in Tamil Nadu in 1606. He claimed to be a scholar of Tamil and openly raged against Hindu paganism.

Rev. Francis Xavier Clooney, currently professor at the Harvard Divinity School, is a highly accomplished Jesuit scholar of comparative religion; he has successfully disarmed a number of Hindus in India and America with his knowledge of Tamil and the bhakti tradition of Tamil Hindus. Of course, his priority is the conversion of pagan Hindus to Catholicism. To this end, he has steeped himself in the process of inculturation and drawn many intellectual Hindus into his interfaith orbit.

Speaking to a small audience at the premises of an American university late last year, Dr. Clooney displayed considerable intellectual finesse, stating that in the past Swami Dayananda Saraswati and Swami Vivekananda had attempted a critical look at the West from a Hindu perspective, but post-colonial authors like Ram Swarup and Sita Ram Goyal had politicized the Hindu Christian relationship. In other words, he skillfully denigrated authentic Hindu scholars who made resistance to Christian conversions the keynote of their scholarship! His (Hindu) audience did not demur.

The Global (read American) Hindus of Indian origin are clever enough to understand that they, and their globe-trotting sanyasi patrons / fellow travellers, are providing savvy Christians with the opportunity to penetrate Hindu society in India and pervert its institutions. But they are too intoxicated by the limelight to retreat. We may leave them to their distractions, as anything they do cannot influence Hindu tradition within India.

Our fight is to ensure the scuttling of further Christian-Hindu / Jain / Sikh dialogue that serves no native interest and can only end in Hindu disempowerment. Christians like
Reverend Clooney are driven by the mission to convert the world, especially a resisting pagan civilisation like India’s. Hindus have no worldwide spiritual-cum-political mission of conquest and must remain focused on resisting missionary activity. Hindus have no reason to engage in inter-faith dialogue, which is a futile and destructive activity from their point of view.

(source:  Inter-faith Dialogue: What’s in it for Hindus? - By Sandhya Jain - vijayvaani.com).

Inter-faith Dialogue: Unveiling of postmodern evangelisation – By George Augustine

Hindus who feel their religion is threatened by Christians are justified in demanding correct answers to these questions. So do others who doubt it is kosher for Christians to dabble in Hindu mysticism and on the sly go all out on a conversion binge.

The dictum “difference anxiety” is also a fallacy, because if Christians and Muslims didn’t consider themselves superior and different from everybody else, they wouldn’t have tried to convert the Hindu or each other, and there would not have been any inculturation or conflict in the first place. If Vatican had thought Hindus were not spiritually deficient, they wouldn’t have invented a dialogue project as a strategy to convert dialogue partners. So, Malhotra’s “difference anxiety” is no radical discovery, but pure sophistry.

Rajiv Malhotra’s role in the dialogue looks murky due to his own confusion about his part. However, it is obvious that he was selected by Francis Clooney as a suitable candidate for his own purposes with or without his knowledge. The latter had cast a vast net far and wide for gullible Hindus for decades, and hooked Malhotra in the due course of a decade. However, it took him that much time to kick-start Vatican’s new form of evangelisation through the agency of Rajiv Malhotra.

It is crystal clear that Clooney is not concerned about Malhotra’s dictums and formulas, or what he is actually speaking at the dialogue, but is focused on indulging in his nefarious pastime – of contaminating Hindu concepts and principles with the primary objective of cannibalising them in order to instill new life into an evil religion that has been rotting for years[33].

Clooney’s speech at Dartmouth is filled with a gleeful call for dialogue between Hindus and Christians (called the West here) whenever he is not praising Malhotra after quoting from the latter’s book, especially those items that call for “mutual respect”.

Clooney, who is backed by political power and influence at a global level, plays down political empowerment of the Hindu by dismissing Sitaram Goel and Ram Swarup as outdated and places “non-Hindutva Hindu” Rajiv Malhotra on a pedestal.

A Hindu without Hindutva is akin to castrated pet animals that are much preferred in the West for their slavish behaviour.

Rajiv Malhotra comes through as a pathetic figure in a tragedy, being tossed around like a pawn by the special effects villainy of Clooney, only to be ridiculed at the end by many of his Hindu brethren and well-wishers including this writer, who appreciate his initiatives like the Hindu Good News and the research work undertaken by him.

To correct the wrong Rajiv Malhotra has done to his own true traditions by misrepresentation, tradition calls upon prayaschita (reparation) commensurate with the karma. Rallying behind the slogan ‘satyameva jayate’ (‘truth alone triumphs’), regaining own inner certitude and advising Clooney to defrock before they resume the next round of dialogue would be a good beginning on that path, and dharma and the whole world will be behind him.

All Hindus whether Leftists, or Rightists, whether upper castes or lower castes, whether rich or poor will be arrested merely on a complaint howsoever flimsy by a Muslim or a Christian or any minority under the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparation) (PCTV) Bill which Dr Manmohan Singh, himself a minority, is planning to place before the Parliament. Draft of this totally anti-Hindu Bill was initially prepared by the National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Sonia Gandhi, a Christian, who was born as Edvige Antonia Albina Maino.

Hate propaganda (Chapter 2, Section 8) by Hindus against minorities is punishable under this law but Muslims and Christian missionaries cannot be booked under this law for spreading hatred against Hindus. It is well known that Christian missionaries who indulge in conversion do a systematic hate campaign against Hindu beliefs. Life imprisonment is the penalty for Hindus under this hate propaganda.

If a Muslim woman or a minority woman complains of rape against a Hindu, he will be arrested, it will be presumed that charge is correct and  the Hindu will have to prove that charge against him is false and that Hindu will not  be told which woman has made  the complaint. But if a Hindu woman is raped by a Muslim or a minority person then she has to prove charge of rape against that person and her identity will be told to her rapist.

This Bill is worst than Aurangzebi firmans and reduces all Hindus to second class status and will force every Hindu to dance to the whims and fancy of every minority even if that minority is their employee.  This Bill if enacted as a law will give a legal weapon to every minority, even a beggar, to send to jail any Hindu he wants to settle his political or personal scores. It is well known that in order to settle scores Christian nuns have made false allegations of rape against some Hindus.

So this Bill must be opposed by all Hindus. If Hindu voters don’t want to get robbed off their children of 15 per cent jobs, 15 per cent of educational seats, etc and if Hindus do not want to go to jails on false allegations of Muslims or Christians, etc they must not cast their votes in favour of the Congress party or its ally parties in any election.

O Hindu voters wake-up, wake-up.

Steve Jobs and the power of Intuition in India

According to Steve Jobs said (according to his biographer - Walter Issacson):

"The people in the Indian countryside don't use their intellect like we do, they use their intuition instead, and their intuition is far more developed than in the rest of the world. Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That's had a big impact on my work,"

Jobs goes on to say that Western rational thought is not an innate human characteristic but is learned. "In the villages of India, they never learned it. They learned something else, which is in some ways just as valuable but in other ways is not. That is the power of intuition and experiential wisdom,"' he said.

Jobs says his seven months stay in Indian villages made him "see the craziness" of the Western world as well as its capacity for rational thought. "If you just sit and observe, you will see how restless your mind is. if you try to calm it, it will only make it worse. but over time it does calm, and when it does, there's room to hear more subtle things - that's when your intuition starts to blossom,'" he says.

"experiential prajna, wisdom or cognitive understanding that is intuitively experienced through concentration of the mind" was his greatest learning from India.

Violence for Peaceful citizens at Ramlila Grounds, Red carpet for Terrorists?

Refer to The Goa Inquisition, Jalianwala Bagh Massacre and Puputan in Hindu Bali.

***

Nitin Gadkari BJP President called Sonia a “symbol of fascism”.

It is clear that the Congress stands for the urban elite and no longer for the aam admi. The vicious, savage attack on a Hindu Yoga guru and his followers at Ramlila grounds is ample evidence of that. Baba Ramdev comes from an OBC caste and many of his followers at the peaceful rally on June 5, 2011 are from what is called the lower middle class. This is middle India and Congress has no time for this India. Its President, ofcourse, did originally hail from the bottommost rung of Italian society. Neverthless, her marriage to the son of a well established Indian family made it possible for her to reach the highest levels of power, and now it would seem (if allegations are true) that she has also become a very wealthy woman. All, at the expense of middle and poor India which has been defrauded by the various scams that she too has beeen participant of, if the allegations are true. The matter is now with the Courts and one can await the results. The latest report on the movements of both her and her son are revealing. They are supposedly on holiday in a certain part of Switzerland (known for its dubious banking arrangements) and the speculation is that the duo are there to take care of their finances !

Ms Natarajan, does not seem to know the history of her own once glorious party, the Indian National Congress. It is now filled with dubious characters, the most vocal of them being Digivijay Singh. There are others too. The skeletons will be falling out of the cupboard before long.

But the star of the show is Sonia. Middle India put up with the excesses of the present Congress Party in its monetary and financial corruption. And on June 5 it suffered the excesses of fascism. Nitin Gadkari was right on target in using the word ‘fascism.’
If fascism can be defined as the combination of political power and high finance, then the present Congress and its president are embodiments of fascism. And when the government launches a savage attack on an unarmed peaceful crowd in the middle of the night, then one sees fascism’s terrified response to its own misdeeds being found out.

Sonia’s unfortunate entanglement in Indian politics is not likely to continue much longer. The Congress has gone into damage control mode and mistaking the temporary subsiding of Baba Ramdev’s satyagraha for victory it has become complacent. But this whistling in the dark is just that, a whistling in the dark. It won’t be long before it drops Sonia from its visible high profile posts, if it plans to survive into the next election.

Not just middle India, but all of India, except the Congress and its camp followers, are alert to the Party’s misdeeds. More will come out if an alert Opposition remains vigilant. Dr. Subramania Swamy’s legal battles are always backed by substantial evidence. His moving the Court concerning Sonia Gandhi will produce substantial results. Other individuals are also speaking out.

Indians, as a people, must now reflect seriously on the fact that an Italian Catholic, who has not shed her monotheistic superstitions, cannot understand the vast and complex country that she was fated to link herself to. As a result she has been an easy target for careerists, opportunists, and fanatics in the Congress Party. She is especially vulnerable to other monotheists both in her personal circle and her national political circle. A quick google search tells one that her main attack dog Digvijay Singh is listed as a Christian. Her personal advisor a Mr. Ahmed, is a Muslim. Her inner circle is composed of people who it is reported, belong to the minority communities. There are of course, also the hangers on, waiting for crumbs from the high table and these are from all denominations and religions. The Minister for Railways went so far as to say that lighting a Hindu lamp at ceremonies should be scrapped. Some members of the minority, such as famed singer Jesudasan, got up and left that meeting in protest at the Minister’s statement.

Even the ‘secular’ Jawaharlal Nehru did not go that far. Lighting Hindu lamps has been an age old tradition in India, since time immemorial.

It is not just in these smaller details that Sonia reveals herself. Almost daily one hears reports of Christian evangelical groups being given free access to the country, the most recent one being the approval given to a US based Christian evangelist group, Word of God Fellowship Inc., to launch a non news channel in India. The approval was given by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). Then there is the recently released draft of the Communal Bill which is heavily weighted against the Hindu population. It should be pointed out that some dubious characters were on the committee that put forward this draft Bill. One of them is the infamous Teesta Setalvad who has been charged by the SIT with bribing witnesses, perjury, coercion etc. There are known anti Hindu personages such as John Dayal there.

Hindus may get complacent with the fact that their great and ancient civilization( the only one that remains standing in today’s world) in the past, has withstood conquests, murder and mayhem, the destruction of their great temples and conversion at the point of the sword, of their population. But today, both jihad and Christian conversion inside India has an additional support from the non nationalist elements of the ruling and upper middle classes, who are wedded to globalization and neo liberalism. To put it in less opaque terms, the concerned Hindu can no longer support globalization and the excesses of neo liberalism. Expecting support from the Left parties is also a misstep since their internationalism is a variant of the liberal position in Indian politics. Their nationalism is on the surface only.

It is time that the Hindus of India voted down the albatross : a moribund and corrupt political party and its president.

Indian Media is afraid of Sonia Gandhi - says Pakistan Journalist

Is she an albatross around India’s Neck?

Although the United Progressive Alliance government advertises itself as being a representative of the “common man”, the reality is that the Manmohan Singh Cabinet has more billionaires in it than any previous team.

As for UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, although on record she and her two children are middle class (with Sonia Gandhi not being able to - according to her written statements - afford even a car or a television set), the reality is that one or two or all of them travel abroad almost once a week, and while sojourning in expensive locations in Europe, do not lack for comforts that only money can buy, and that too, a lot of it.

Of course, the media in India is terrified of Sonia Gandhi ( who has her protection squad headed by Political Secretary Ahmed Patel and including heavyweights such as Home Minister P Chidambaram, a team that can be relied upon to ensure that media outlets who go against Sonia Gandhi very soon realise and accept the error of their ways). Hence no report of any such travel ever appears in the local press, not to speak of a photograph. This is in contrast to genuine democracies, where photographs and news reports of leaders and their families going abroad are common.

Because of the awesome power of patronage that is theirs to command, the ruling branch of the Nehru family ( now comprising of Sonia Gandhi, her bachelor son Rahul and daughter Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra) can boast of numerous senior officials who are proud to flaunt the fact that they are servitors.

B V Wanchoo, for long head of the Special Protection Force and one of the senior most police officers, has been shown on television running alongside vehicles conveying Sonia and her close family members. He has repeatedly been promoted and given extensions as a reward for such loyalty. Another police officer, Ashwani Kumar, became a talking point among police officers in Himachal Pradesh because of the time he is reported to have spent in ensuring proper construction of Priyanka Vadra’s mansion in that state.

Secular Liberal Establishment of India and its hostility to Hinduism

For all its intellectual glamour the faux idealism that drives our news-folk remains a shockingly hollow establishmentarian elitism. This is best explained here:

“Basically sec-lib establishment is an alien organism within the host body. The establishment predominantly constitutes of the deracinated Indians, intellectually and spiritually Macaulay’s [love] children.…

This contradiction presents an existential dilemma to the establishment, much like Islamic rulers of Delhi, they feel besieged by the surrounding Indic civilization. Subconsciously they realize that Hinduism is the core of Indic civilization. They also realize that it is our traditions with all their quirks and follies which are an obstacle to their vision of a irreligious and westernized future.

This threat of being subsumed by something which they consider far inferior to themselves, and the frustration at being unable to convert unwashed heathen masses to their superior and enlightened outlook are what ultimately drives their hostility…”

It is important to realize their game plan. All their self righteous outrage about Gujarat riots, or Mumbai riots, or Shri Rama Sena, or Discrimination against Muslims is just smokescreen. Their aim ultimately is to annihilate the Indic civilization.

Baba Ramdev’s mass appeal frightens Congress

It has become quite apparent that the government is jittered by the mass appeal generated by Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare. The scenario is becoming reminiscent of the emergency days when people of this country congregated in each and every city to protest against the high-handed rule of the erstwhile Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It can only be hoped that Sonia Gandhi – who de-facto runs the government – does not repeat the mistake of her mother-in-law and does not attempt to suppress the people’s movement. She would do well to remember that the oppressive tactics of Indira Gandhi inspired the entire political opposition to unite and the movement led by Mr Jayaprakash Narayan, culminated in the formation of the first non-congress government in India in the year 1977.

It won’t be an exaggeration to call the incumbent UPA government as the most corrupt one in the history of independent India; the amount of the embezzlement done by the various members of the government, is simply incalculable. Skeleton after skeleton is emerging out of the cupboard of this government headed by a puppet Prime Minister, who shamelessly is not ready to shoulder the responsibility for the misdeeds of his cabinet ministers and the other members of the government. The people of this country have been defrauded to the tune of more than Rs two lakh crores through the scams like CWG and 2G spectrum. And under the circumstances, if voices are being raised against such criminal acts, government is threatening to suppress such protests with an iron glove.

Swami Ramdev, for long has been demanding the enactment of Lokpal bill to deter the unscrupulous elements from indulging in corrupt practices and now – in the aftermath of these mega-scams—since the push has come to shove, alongside with his own followers and millions of those who want to eliminate corruption from this land, has come out openly to force the government to enact appropriate laws for the same. He has been demanding the repatriation of Rs four lakh crores stashed away in the Swiss banks and the other tax havens by the corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen of India.

Swami Ramdev with his impeccable track record of serving the masses of this nation, by any standards, seems to be the most appropriate and perfect man to lead the mass movement against corruption. And rattled by his mass appeal, all those who have factored in institutionalising the corruption and perpetuating the same, have come together and hence an orchestrated diatribe against him and an uncalled for police action against his peaceful Satyagrah in the Ramlila ground of Delhi.

Over the years, Swami Ramdev has been vociferously criticising some of the products marketed by the powerful multi-nationals in India. He has scientifically proved that soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi are big health hazards and has been advocating the consumption of natural health drinks and sherbets in place of the former. He painstakingly has been bringing to the notice of the public that excessive usage of the allopathic medicines cure one kind of ailment and in the process, create another. With the combination of the Yogic asanas, kriyas, pranayam and ayurvedic medicines and food supplements – he has been proving – most of the diseases can be prevented and cured also. The overwhelming majority of the population which cannot afford the expensive medical treatments, consider itself indebted to Swami Ramdev and people of his ilk for having guided them to the healthier way of life at no or negligible cost.

Swami Ramdev has been severely criticising the indiscriminate usage of fertilisers and pesticides which have been progressively rendering our land infertile and poisoning the food products, respectively; in place of the said harmful items, he has been advocating the consumption of organic manures.

The truth which is not meeting the public eye is that, those who have usurped the wealth of the nation and stashed it illegally in the foreign banks and the agents of those multinationals—which are dreaming of looting the unsuspecting and gullible common man of this nation by selling their harmful food items, pharmaceuticals, fertilisers and the pesticides— have joined hands and baying for Swami Ramdev’s blood. Now the onus is on the nationalist Indians to rise and thwart the nefarious designs of the enemies of this nation and consolidate the ranks of people like Swami Ramdev and Anna Hazare.

First phase of Swami Ramdev’s agitation which comprised of fasts by him and by his countless followers, is over. Now in the ensuing phase, he is going to exhort the people of this country – irrespective of the caste, creed, region and religion—to unite against the injustices which have been done to them by the corrupt rulers and will tour extensively throughout the country. As expected, the government, will not hesitate from using strong arm tactics – as it had ruthlessly used in the Ramlila ground recently – to down the morale of the protesting masses, but, as the history stands testimony to the fact, as always, people of this country will win the battle.

Sanskrit and Lithuanian are closely related

Since the 19th century, when the similarity between Lithuanian and Sanskrit was discovered, Lithuanians have taken a particular pride in their mother tongue as the oldest living Indo-European language.

It is a common belief that there is a close similarity between the Lithuanian and Sanskrit languages; Lithuanian being the European language grammatically closest to Sanskrit. It is not difficult to imagine the surprise of the scholarly world when they learned that even in their time somewhere on the Nemunas River lived a people who spoke a language as archaic in many of its forms as Sanskrit itself.

Antoine Meillet (1866 - 1936) famous French linguist said: "Sanskrit scholar could understand and be understood by a Lithuanian farmer".

Lithuanian: dievas dave dantis; dievas duos duonos

Sanskrit: devas adat datas, devas dasyati dhanas

Translated: God gave us teeth, God will give us bread

Paul Thieme, (1905 - 2001) in 1958, has compared the Lithuanian proverb: Dievas davė dantis; Dievas duos ir duonos  ‘God gave teeth, God will also give bread’ with what he (Thieme) calls an old form of Sanskrit: Devas adadā t datas; Devas dā t (or dadā t) api dhā nā s. (Actually according to the rules of Old Indic phonetics, several of the words occur in a slightly different form in a connected text in Sanskrit.)

SON:      Sanskrit sunus - Lithuanian sunus

SHEEP:   Sanskrit avis - Lithuanian avis

SOLE:     Sanskrit padas - Lithuanian padas

MAN:     Sanskrit viras - Lithuanian vyras

SMOKE: Sanskrit dhumas - Lithuanian dumas

These Lihuanian words have not changed their forms for the last five thousand years.

The relationship between Sanskrit and Lithuanian goes even deeper. Take, for example, the Lithuanian word 'daina' that usually is translated as 'song'. The word actually comes from an Indo-European root, meaning ‘to think, to remember, to ponder over’. This root is found in Sanskrit as dhi and dhya. The word also occurs in the Rigveda (ancient Indian sacred collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns) in the sense of ‘speech reflecting the inner thoughts of man’.

Apart from its Indo-European background as word and term, the ‘daina’ incorporates the idea of the Sun-Goddess who was married to the Moon-God, reminiscent of goddess Surya in the Rigveda.

Incredible Indian-Lithuanian relations

Professor Lokesh Chandra has observed:

“The very mention of Lithuanian opens up an image, a vision that gives a people their identity through language. It shows how the darkness of dreams becomes the new embodied hope. My father was stimulated and strengthened in his work on the development of Hindi by the history of Lithuanian language. It has been the eternal continuity of these people; - it rustles something deep in their being. My father felt that we in India share with our distant Lithuanian brothers the silent geography of lost frontiers. Political freedom is inseparable from language.”

And the professor continues with his amazing story: “My father would relate how grandmas in the remote villages narrated folk-tales to eager grandchildren in their Lithuanian language which was despised by the Slavised nobility and punished by the Czarist regime. My father also told me how the Lithuanian daina (songs) were abandoned by the courts, but still continued to live on in the villages, faithfully preserved by the poorest people of Lithuania, guarded by the mothers of the families even during the darkest periods of Lithuania’s history.”

The Genocide we and the world forgot

To side with Hindus even if they are right is akin to blasphemy in the vaunted circles of the free Indian media. How else can you explain the relentless crusade against the Gujarat riots that persists even to this day in comparison with the near total silence on the monumental genocide that obliterated 2.4 million Hindus from the face of the earth or the shoddy treatment meted out to the continued ethnic cleansing of a quarter million Hindus from Kashmir?

All atrocities regardless of the colour, caste, creed or religion of the victims must be condemned fair and square and the perpetrators relentlessly pursued till eternity if need be and brought to book. When we can raise your voice for 2,000 Muslims (the official figures are much less) killed in Gujarat and we should, we must cry from the roof tops for 2.4 million Hindus killed in 1971 or the 250,000 Kashmiri Pandits forced out of their homes in Kashmir. Why do we not?

Annihilation of Pandits happened while we watched

"FACT has been running an awareness campaign highlighting the effects of terrorism on the Hindus of Kashmir, known as the Pandits, who underwent a near genocide since 1989, due to violence from Jihadi terrorism. The violence has led to the exodus of nearly 400,000 Kashmiri Hindus and the death of over 50,000 innocent civilians, which continues to this day." - Francois Gautier

The 1984 Congress Pogrom that left more than 4,00 Sikhs dead

Manmohan Singh and Congress suffer from selective amnesia as they rake up the 2002 Gujarat violence to malign the BJP. But even if they choose to forget the 1984 pogrom that left more than 4,000 Sikhs dead, the story remains fresh in the minds of many, among them survivors waiting for justice for 25 years.

Caught on the wrong foot over the brazen manner in which it tried to absolve Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar of the serious charges that have been levelled against them by survivors of the 1984 pogrom that resulted in the slaughter of 4, 733 Sikhs, the Congress has struck back at its principal political adversary, the BJP, by once again raising the bogey of the 2002 post-Godhra violence in Gujarat.

Justice Nanavati's report said, "The Commission considers it safe to record its finding that there is credible evidence against Jagdish Tytler to the effect that very probably he had a hand in organising attacks on Sikhs." This is not an indictment, Mr Manmohan Singh and his Government decided, so why bother about it? Four years later they remain unrepentant, their attitude remains unchanged.

Two thousand seven hundred and thirty-three men, women and children killed in Delhi, another 2,000 killed elsewhere, scores of women raped, property worth crores of rupees looted or sacked. Families devastated forever, survivors scarred for the rest of their lives. But the Congress doesn't care!  More than 4,000 Sikhs were slaughtered by Congress thugs who were 'mourning' the death of Mrs Indira Gandhi. The assassinated Prime Minister's son and successor Rajiv Gandhi did not so much as lift his little finger in admonition. Instead, he justified the carnage!  - Kanchan Gupta

Godhra: The True Story - By Nicole Elfi

***

Godhra, a city of the Indian State of Gujarat, was the lead story in all Indian newspapers on February 27th-28th, 2002. A shattering piece of news: 58 Hindu pilgrims had been burned alive in a train. “57 die in ghastly attack on train” ran the Times of India’s headline; “Mob targets Ramsevaks [Devotees of Rama] returning from Ayodhya”; “58 killed in attack on train with Karsevaks [volunteers]” (The Indian Express); “1500-strong mob butcher 57 Ramsevaks on Sabarmati Express” (The Asian Age). But the BBC’s announcement had a very different tone: “58 Hindu ‘extremists’ burned to death” … or Agence France Press on March 2nd: “A train full of Hindu ‘extremists’ was burnt.”

A deluge of anguished news followed about a “Muslim genocide”: “Mass killings of Muslims in reprisal riots” (NYT, March 5th), “The authorities … share the prejudices of the Hindu gangs who have been busy pulping their Muslim neighbours” (The Observer, March 4th).

We were told that Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, intended to eradicate Muslims from the State — more than 9% of Gujarat’s population, in other words five million people. We read that the police was conniving in the mass slaughter and did nothing to prevent it.

Narendra Modi was compared to Hitler, or Nero.

We shuddered reading the reports describing rapes and various horrors, supposedly inflicted on Muslims by Hindus.

Today, six years later, with the noises and cries of the wounds having fallen silent, what emerges from those events? What are the facts?

At 7:43 A.M. on February 27th, 2002, the Sabarmati Express rolled into the Godhra station, fortunately with a four-hour delay, in broad daylight. This train transported more than 2,000 people, mainly karsewaks on their way back to Ahmedabad after participating in the Poorna Ahuti Yagya at Ayodhya, a ritual at the traditional birthplace of Rama.

As it pulled out of the station, the train was pelted with stones and bricks, and passengers from several bogeys were forced to bring down their windows to protect themselves. Someone pulled the emergency chain: the train came to a halt about 100 metres away from the platform, surrounded by a large crowd of Muslims. The railway police managed to disperse the crowd, and the train resumed its journey.

Within minutes, the emergency chain was simultaneously pulled again, from several coaches. It halted at about 700 metres from the station. A crowd of over 1,000 surrounded the train, pelting it with bricks, stones, then burning missiles and acid bulbs, especially on the S-5, S-6 and S-7 coaches.

The vacuum pipe between coaches S-6 and S-7 was cut, thereby preventing any further movement of the train. The doors were locked from outside. A fire started in coach S-7, which the passengers were able to extinguish. But the attack intensified and coach S-6 caught fire and minutes later, was in flames. Passengers who managed to get out of the burning compartment were attacked with sharp weapons, and stoned. They received serious injuries, some were killed. Others got out through the windows and took shelter below the coach.

Fifty eight pilgrims were burned alive, including twenty-seven women and ten children. The whole attack lasted 20-25 minutes.

What transpired then, in the Indian press? Let’s imagine a coach of French pilgrims coming back from Lourdes, burned alive.

Indian Media Justifying Murder

Victims were guilty?

Strangely, instead of clearly, straightforwardly condemning the act, the Indian English-language press tried to justify it: “Pilgrims provoked by chanting pro-Hindu slogans” (they were not slogans but bhajans, or devotional songs, ending with “Jai Sri Ram” (Victory to Sri Rama). “It’s because they were returning from Ayodhya, where they asked for the reconstruction of a temple at the traditional birth place of Rama; this offends the feelings of the Muslims.”

In sum, the victims, roasted alive, were guilty.

Swami Vivekananda and Yoga in the West

***

Jan. 12, 2013, will commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vivekananda.

If you’re annoyed that your local gas station is now a yoga studio, you might blame Vivekananda for having introduced “yoga” into the national conversation — though an exercise cult with expensive accessories was hardly what he had in mind.

The Indian monk, born Narendranath Datta to an aristocratic Calcutta family, alighted in Chicago in 1893 in ochre robes and turban, with little money after a daunting two-month trek from Bombay. Notwithstanding the fact that he had spent the previous night sleeping in a boxcar, the young mystic made an electrifying appearance at the opening of the august Parliament of Religions that Sept. 11.

For most of the rest of the month, Vivekananda held the conference’s 4,000 attendees spellbound in a series of show stopping improvised talks. He had simplified Vedanta thought to a few teachings that were accessible and irresistible to Westerners, foremost being that “all souls are potentially divine.” His prescription for life was simple, and perfectly American: “work and worship.” By the end of his last Chicago lecture on Sept. 27, Vivekananda was a star. And like the enterprising Americans he so admired, he went on the road to pitch his message — dazzling some of the great minds of his time.

Yet precious few of the estimated 16 million supple, spandex-clad yoginis in the United States, who sustain an annual $6 billion industry, seem to have a clue that they owe their yoga mats to Vivekananda. Enriching this irony was Vivekananda’s utter lack of interest in physical exertions beyond marathon sitting meditations and pilgrimages to holy sites.

“You are not your body,” he often reminded Americans, who tend to prefer “doing” over “being.”  More distressing, for some, was his other message: “You are not your mind.”

Yoga to the man who most famously delivered its message to America meant just one thing: “realizing God.”

Among those who never doubted the messenger during his lifetime was Leo Tolstoy. The restless Russian was especially keen for writings on Ramakrishna, Vivekananda’s own guru. Two years before his death, Tolstoy wrote, “Since 6 in the morning I have been thinking of Vivekananda,” and later, “It is doubtful if in this age man has ever risen above this selfless, spiritual meditation.”

The Harvard philosopher and psychologist William James was fascinated by the 31-year-old Indian and quoted at length from Vivekananda’s writings in his seminal work, “The Varieties of Religious Experience.”

The novelist Gertrude Stein, then a student of James’s at Radcliffe, reportedly attended Vivekananda’s 1896 talk at Harvard — which so wowed the college’s graybeards that they offered him the chairmanship of Eastern philosophy. He declined, noting his vows as a monk.

A later convert to the mystic’s writings was Aldous Huxley, who wrote the foreword to the 1942 English-language edition of “The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna,” which he described as “the most profound and subtle utterances about the nature of Ultimate Reality.” Along with his friend Christopher Isherwood, Huxley was formally initiated at the Vedanta Center in the Hollywood Hills, where the two sometimes gave the Sunday lecture, often attended by their friends Igor Stravinsky, Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Somerset Maugham and Greta Garbo.

In 1945, Henry Miller, famous for his sex-drizzled novels, reported that his most important discovery of recent years was “two volumes on Ramakrishna and Vivekananda.” By 1962, Miller concluded that “Swami Vivekananda remains for me one of the great influences in my life.”

J. D. Salinger’s commitment went deeper and he would leave Vedantic footprints in his work, often via his frontman, Seymour Glass. In his last published work, “Hapworth 16, 1924,” Salinger has Seymour hawking the wisdom of Vivekananda with the avidity of a pitchman on the Shopping Channel, calling him “one of the most exciting, original, and best equipped giants of this century I have ever run into; my personal sympathy for him will never be outgrown or exhausted as long as I live, mark my words; I would easily give 10 years of my life, possibly more, if I could have shaken his hand.”

Swami Vivekanada enthusiasm for America was boundless and, quite fittingly, he died on July 4, 1902. He was just 39 years old, but was exhausted from ceaseless work and untreated diabetes. He had returned to India and was living in the monastery he founded outside Calcutta. He excused himself for the evening and went into his room, meditated awhile, then took two deep breaths — and passed away. Earlier, he had remarked, “I have given enough for fifteen hundred years.” He was done.

Swamiji’s story in 3D animation

Swami Vivekananda’s life is being made into an animation film to mark the monk’s 150th birth anniversary in 2013. The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, has tied up with the city-based Aura Cinematics to produce the film.

Kindled, as the 90-minute feature will be called, is in the pre-production stage. It deals with the phase of the Swami’s life from his meeting with Ramakrishna Paramhansa to his decision to spend his life in the service of others. The movie is in English and features 3D animation.

In the Land of Swami Vivekananda - Plight of Hindus

Hindu tradition looks poorly upon those who assault unarmed citizenry, something the Italian-born Roman Catholic Sonia Gandhi does not understand.

***

The Congress-led UPA government lost both honour and legitimacy when, in the dead of night of 4–5 June, it sent armed policemen to invade and assault unarmed, sleeping, anti-corruption protestors at Ramlila Maidan in the capital, led by the celebrated Yogi, Swami Ramdev.

The action is reminiscent of the manner in which the Communist Party of India–Marxist lost its reputation when goons raped two women protesting against State land grab for a crony capitalist in Singur, West Bengal.

Hindu tradition looks poorly upon those who assault unarmed citizenry, something the Italian-born Roman Catholic Sonia Gandhi does not understand.

Petticoat politicians like Digvijay Singh may exult in the false empowerment wrought by misuse of power, but there should be no doubt that there will be a severe public backlash, with no quarter or mercy for supremo Sonia Maino Gandhi, widely perceived as the architect and beneficiary of this Nazi Gestapo–Sicilian style operation.

Tasks before the nation

There is an immediate need to disband the National Advisory Council and its illegal role in law-making and setting the national agenda, overriding Parliament and Government. This body of intellectual charlatans has been created only to give the Congress president a Cabinet rank at public expense, and to host a bunch of unelectable cronies who help her undermine and destabilize the Prime Minister and the Government.

Under Sonia Gandhi, the UPA has been forced to outsource all thinking and law-making to these darbaris.

The Supreme Court, whose judges surely witnessed the atrocity on their television screens along with the rest of the nation, is morally on trial at this critical juncture. To uphold its prestige, the Hon’ble judges must suo moto take notice of the unprovoked violence unleashed upon the citizenry and order an immediate ban on the political culture of surreptitious and illegal midnight arrests/ detention of unarmed persons, without warrant, and particularly the bashing up of sleeping men, women and children in the darkness of night.

No matter how irked persons in authority may feel about peaceful protestors, a civilized society claiming to be a democracy cannot allow its citizens to be hounded and assaulted like animals selected for culling in a jungle.

The Supreme Court must make the Government apologise for this atrocity and pay punitive damages for the physical violence and loss of human dignity suffered by Swami Ramdev and the thousands of men, women, and children, whose peaceful gathering was illegally disrupted with police brutalities.

Swami Ramdev and the public should give a wide berth to the National Human Rights Commission headed by Sonia acolyte K.G. Balakrishnan, who remained a mute spectator to this scandal and failed to take cognizance of this massive outrage enacted in the capital itself. In fact, we should demand disbanding this useless and motivated body, which is merely a perch for cronies of the powers-that-be.

Why politics behind purdah?

It bears recalling that the first major scandal involving political leadership in our times was the Bofors payoff scam which engulfed the reputation of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, all on account of his wife, Sonia Maino Gandhi, and her personal associations.

A Banana Republic?

The UPA government instead of cracking down on crooks, hawala operators, and illegal foreign bank account holders, has instead swooped on an unarmed Swamiji and world renowned Yoga teacher who had wanted effective action against the corruption, making India look like a tin pot dictatorship in a Banana RepublicDr Subramanian Swami

Digvijay Singh: The Ignoble and Depraved Rajput

A sorry spectacle of a Rajput demeaning a Hindu Yoga guru

The once glorious Indian National Congress, and the once glorious Rajputs, are both at the lowest ebb of their respective traditions as seen in two members of the Congress Party. The choice of Sonia Gandhi as President of the Party was a hapless one. The present writer has written about her unsuitability for Indian conditions. Unlike the intrepid freedom fighter for Indian independence, the Irish stalwart Annie Besant, who had immersed herself in Hindu India’s traditions, Sonia continued to nurture her monotheistic superstitions, thanks to the fact that her general education was non existent. It is not certain whether she has even a high school degree, or that she even took the diploma from the foreign language school in Cambridge town where the good nuns from Italy had sent her hoping that she would become an au pair girl or a domestic. Nor did she make an effort to study Indian history and Bharat’s culture and civilization. She locked herself into a solitude, surrounded by dubious characters.

Digvijay Singh offers a marked contrast. One could depict him as a clown, except the seriousness of his slippery slope is also an insult to the Rajput tradition of loyalty to their country and heroic history. One does not even dare to mention the sacred name of a Rana Pratap, in this context of a Rajput gone bad. Unlike Sonia he had a heroic tradition to look up to and live by. What actually happened is a different story altogether.

Congress’s attack dog is hiding behind the strength of his master/mistress’s temporary popularity. As her fortunes ebb, the rats will leave the sinking ship. No doubt he will be the first. Till then he has some time and he is making the most of it. One has to only look at the sorry spectacle of a Rajput demeaning a Hindu Yoga guru, while simultaneously speaking of Bin Laden as Bin Ladenji. It is also reported by one perceptive journalist that it was Chidambaram and the exRajput who stood behind Sonia’s decision to attack Baba Ramdev.

The names this pitiful individual reserved for the Hindu Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev were ‘thug’ and ‘fraud’.

Under Sonia Gandhi’s 12 year reign of terror for the Hindus of India, this is possibly only one more example of anything goes. As long as it is someone from the majority community everything is fair game. But he is also playing a double game. During the satyagraha of the Yoga Guru in the first week of June, Digvijay Singh tried to fool the Hindu masses by using the phrase ‘ Hamare Sanatana Dharma’ (Our Sanatana Dharma). Who is he fooling. ?

He is listed in the Wikipedia biography as Christian. He is a convert, presumably.

Hinduism spreads in Ghana, reaches Togo in Africa

From just two dozen people in the mid 1970s to 3,000 families now, Hinduism is spreading in Ghana and has also made its way into neighbouring Togo.

Hindu worship began to grow in Ghana after African spiritual leader, Essel ji, was initiated by Swami Krishnanda ji Saraswati into the Holy Order of Renunciation in 1976, said Kwesi Anamoah, national president of the African Hindu Temple here.

"Today, there are 2,000 to 3,000 families worshipping all over the country which is a big increase from the 24 people who participated in the first-ever training camp in 1976 to become disciples,"

"We have not achieved this through the winning of souls as other religions do, but have attracted people into the practice of Hinduism simply by the lives we lead," he said, adding: "Our lives shine in the community to attract people."

Christians form nearly 70 percent of the 24 million population of Ghana while the population of six million in Togo includes nearly 30 percent Christians and 20 percent Muslims. Anamoah said that the practice of Hinduism as a religion and its unique philosophy is helping to change the lives of those who have accepted the faith. He said the first ever Hindu monastery has been built in Ghana and it is from here that Hinduism is spreading.

"We do not evangelise like other faiths do, but we have attracted people because they see how we live our lives as Hindus and come to make enquiries and then find their way into our folds," He said the monastery annually holds six weeks' training for those interested to become devotees.

"It is a religion that cannot be explained in simple terms...we do not go into the streets to talk to people; rather, they are invited to come and understand."  Anamoah said perceptions about the religion has changed with time.

India can't be ruled by NGOs

"The kleptocrats have convinced the urban idiottarati that even asking questions about loot is a crime. So they will stay."

                                      -  Rajeev Srinivasan in Ramlila swoop, the NAM curse, and India’s alternative future

The emergence of Baba Ramdev as the newest anti-corruption crusader, after Anna Hazare, has unsettled the midsummer complacency of the Congress-inclined Establishment. If the man BJP president Nitin Gadkari cheekily dubbed the "rockstar of yoga" can extend his energies beyond wellness and simple patriotism - the two recurrent themes of his discourses - where, it is being asked, will the process stop? It was bad enough, they say, that a slightly naïve Gandhian like Hazare allowed himself to become the instrument of a small coterie of activists who presume to talk for the whole of 'civil society'; will Ramdev now add to the distortion?

First, while there is always a place in a democracy for extra-parliamentary movements, the responsibilities of governance rest exclusively with an elected leadership. The Government can and should interact with different interest groups, but the interest groups (whether they call themselves NGOs or civil society representatives) cannot assume the reins of Government.

Secondly, to prevent the misuse or concentration of authority, the Constitution has created a system of checks and balances. In particular, the judiciary exists to ensure the rule of law. The judges can ensure that laws correspond to the 'basic structure' of the Constitution but they cannot either become lawmakers or administrators.

How to wipe out Islamic terror – By Subramanian Swamy

Bharat is an ancient nation with Hindu Identity

The terrorist blast in Mumbai on July 13, 2011, requires decisive soul-searching by the Hindus of India. Hindus cannot accept to be killed in this halal fashion, continuously bleeding every day till the nation finally collapses. Terrorism I define here as the illegal use of force to overawe the civilian population to make it do or not do an act against its will and well-being.

Islamic terrorism is India’s number one problem of national security. About this there will be no doubt after 2012. By that year, I expect a Taliban takeover in Pakistan and the Americans to flee Afghanistan.

Islam's "unfinished business" in India?

Then, Islam will confront Hinduism to “complete unfinished business”. Already the successor to Osama bin Laden as al-Qaeda leader has declared that India is the priority target for that terrorist organisation and not the USA.

Fanatic Muslims consider Hindu-dominated India “an unfinished chapter of Islamic conquests”. All other countries conquered by Islam 100% converted to Islam within two decades of the Islamic invasion. Undivided India in 1947 was 75% Hindu even after 800 years of brutal Islamic rule. That is jarring for the fanatics.

In one sense, I do not blame the Muslim fanatics for targeting Hindus. I blame Hindus who have taken their individuality permitted in Sanatan Dharma to the extreme. Millions of Hindus can assemble without state patronage for the Kumbh Mela, completely self-organised, but they all leave for home oblivious of the targeting of Hindus in Kashmir, Mau, Melvisharam and Malappuram and do not lift their little finger to help organise Hindus.

If half the Hindus voted together, rising above caste and language, a genuine Hindu party would have a two-thirds majority in Parliament and the assemblies.

The first lesson to be learnt from the recent history of Islamic terrorism against India and for tackling terrorism in India is that the Hindu is the target and that Muslims of India are being programmed by a slow reactive process to become radical and thus slide into suicide against Hindus. It is to undermine the Hindu psyche and create the fear of civil war that terror attacks are organised.

Hindus must collectively respond as Hindus against the terrorist and not feel individually isolated or, worse, be complacent because he or she is not personally affected. If one Hindu dies merely because he or she was a Hindu, then a bit of every Hindu also dies. This is an essential mental attitude, a necessary part of a virat (committed) Hindu.

According to bleeding heart liberals, terrorists are born or bred because of illiteracy, poverty, oppression, and discrimination. This is rubbish.

Osama bin laden was a billionaire. In the failed Times Square episode, failed terrorist Shahzad was from a highly placed family in Pakistan and had an MBA from a reputed US university.

Refer to How to wipe out Islamic terror - By Subramanian Swamy

***

We need a collective mindset as Hindus to stand against the Islamic terrorist. The Muslims of India can join us if they genuinely feel for the Hindu. That they do I will not believe unless they acknowledge with pride that though they may be Muslims, their ancestors were Hindus. If any Muslim acknowledges his or her Hindu legacy, then we Hindus can accept him or her as a part of the Brihad Hindu Samaj (greater Hindu society) which is Hindustan. India that is Bharat that is Hindustan is a nation of Hindus and others whose ancestors were Hindus. Others, who refuse to acknowledge this, or those foreigners who become Indian citizens by registration, can remain in India but should not have voting rights (which means they cannot be elected representatives).

Any policy to combat terrorism must begin with requiring each and every Hindu becoming a virat Hindu. For this, one must have a Hindu mindset that recognises that there is vyaktigat charitra (personal character) and rashtriya charitra (national character). For example, Manmohan Singh has high personal character, but by being a rubber stamp of a semi-literate Sonia Gandhi and waffling on all national issues, he has proved that he has no rashtriya charitra.

The second lesson for combating terrorism is that we must never capitulate or concede any demand, as we did in 1989 (freeing five terrorists in exchange for Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s daughter Rubaiya) and in 1999, freeing three terrorists after the hijack of Indian Airlines flight IC-814.

The third lesson is that whatever and however small the terrorist incident, the nation must retaliate massively. For example, when the Ayodhya temple was sought to be attacked, we should have retaliated by re-building the Ram temple at the site.

According to bleeding heart liberals, terrorists are born or bred because of illiteracy, poverty, oppression, and discrimination. They argue that instead of eliminating them, the root cause of these four disabilities in society should be removed. This is rubbish. Osama bin laden was a billionaire. In the failed Times Square episode, failed terrorist Shahzad was from a highly placed family in Pakistan and had an MBA from a reputed US university.

It is also a ridiculous idea that terrorists cannot be deterred because they are irrational and willing to die. Terrorist masterminds have political goals and a method in their madness. An effective strategy to deter terrorism is to defeat those political goals and to rubbish them by counter-terrorist action. Thus, I advocate the following strategy to negate the political goals of Islamic terrorism in India.

Goal 1: Overawe India on Kashmir.

Strategy: Remove Article 370 and resettle ex-servicemen in the valley. Create Panun Kashmir for the Hindu Pandit community. Look for or create an opportunity to take over PoK. If Pakistan continues to back terrorists, assist the Baluchis and Sindhis to get their independence.

Indian politicians ensure that Hindus are ignorant of of India's history. They have tinkered with our education and kept the Islamic and Christian colonial education to make sure Hindus are kept in ignorance.

Most Hindus have little knowledge of the centuries of history of Islamic conquests and Christian colonialism. Brutal Islamic conquest of India resulted in the deaths of hundreds of millions of Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs. Millions of Hindus were forcefully converted and enslaved. Nor do most Hindus understand the Sharia-based subjugation of Hindus as "Dhimmis". Hindus are treated as third class citizens in their own land even after independence from British Christian Colonialists. One of the most egregious error is that Hindus are indoctrinated to believe that Islamic invaders and Christian colonialists were tolerant, progressive and unified the nation.

The lies, bigotry, corruption, Islamic appeasement, coercive religious conversion, and policy failures must be exposed if Hindus are to ever understand not only what happened thousands of years ago but to understand Why Hindus are oppressed, maligned, and treated as third class citizens by the tyrannical Congress Party and pseudo secularism. For the corrupt and Hindu politicians in India, any insult, terrorism and violence against Hindus is correct. This is the piece of the puzzle Hindus fail to grasp. Hindus who want to protect their sacred Temples and Santana Dharma are provocateurs, a breach of peace which amounts to anti democratic, anti Islam and anti democratic. Muslims marching with swords and bombs, missionaries using deceptive methods, Marxists undertaking subversive activities, corruption, public looting are legitimate. It is a fair game for Jihadis to chop off hands of a professor, destruction of Hindu Temples and burning alive Hindu passengers in train.

Now we understand why Hindus are treated as Third Class Citizens in Our Motherland?

"The recent drama at the Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF) calls to mind the cancellation of Subramanian Swamy’s Harvard University summer course assignment. The pattern is straightforward and similar. Hindus who are alleged to have offended Muslims are insulted in the United States of America. It doesn’t matter if they are not proved guilty by any judicial court or if they have been voted to power by Indian citizens.  Guantanamo Bay seems to be eschewed by these fascist liberals, because it was run by the Christians. These hypocritical academicians don’t play their dirty tricks with American politicians like George W. Pamela Geller (1958 - ) in her article Harvard Sells Out Free Speech to Islamic Supremacism has noted:

But is it not central to this Ivy League university and every institution in these United States to “protect free speech, including that of Dr Swamy and of those who disagree with him”?

Where does Harvard address the truth of Swamy’s remarks, or the
80 million Hindus slaughtered in jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilations and enslavements?

India, along with Israel, southern Sudan and so many other places, have been the battlefields in endless bloody wars to install a universal caliphate, the objective of the global jihad.

Freedom of speech protects all speech, not just the ideas that we like.  That’s the point.  Who decides what’s good and what’s forbidden?  Harvard?  The Islamic supremacists who are seeking to impose the Sharia restriction on free speech?

Harvard has been bought and sold to the highest Sharia bidder.  In December 2005, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal donated $20 million each to Harvard University and Georgetown University to fund Islamic studies.

The Inside High Education article, “Over the Line: Harvard kills courses by controversial summer school instructor” is indicative of how dhimmified the groves of academia at elite American universities can be when the subject of Islam comes up.  In Prof. Subramanian Swamy’s case it is because he has nationalistic views on how to deal with Muslims in his native India.   The Harvard Faculty, while professing support for freedom of speech, doesn’t think it applies in the Swamy case, because he is “destructively” attacking another of India’s great faiths, Islam.  This despite the fact that the Economics faculty at Harvard thought him eminently qualified to teach his courses. It was left to the Harvard faculty Indian religious expert to press for a faculty vote to cancel Swamy’s summer school courses.

Refer to Justifying Stupidity? Harvard pathetically justifies its actions - So Long Swamy - By Harvard Crimson and chapter on Islamic Onslaught and How to wipe out Islamic terror - By Subramanian Swamy

The op-ed ran in Daily News & Analysis (and while that newspaper no longer has the piece online, it can be read here). The piece, a response to a bombing by Muslim terrorists in Mumbai, said that India could wipe out terrorism by taking certain steps, such as declaring India a Hindu state where "non-Hindus can vote only if they proudly acknowledge that their ancestors were Hindus," or demolishing mosques, or banning conversion from Hinduism to any other faith. Swamy was once an economics professor at Harvard, but he returned to his home in India, where is an outspoken nationalistic politician. But he has come back to Harvard each year to teach in the summer school.

An account of the meeting in Harvard Magazine said that the economics department chair, John Y. Campbell, told the faculty that his economics colleagues considered Swamy to be "competent" to teach the courses, and that none of the students who took his courses last summer had complained about him. The proposal that eventually carried -- to decline to authorize Swamy's courses -- was made by Diana L. Eck, a scholar of India's religions. According to the Harvard Magazine account, she stressed that this was much more than an issue of a professor having some controversial views. She called Swamy's views "destructive" and said that his ideas involved limiting the human rights of others and denying freedom of religion. In light of the nature of his comments, she also wondered why his courses hadn't been "quietly dropped," rather than included in the proposed offerings for the coming summer.

At least one American group, the Philadelphia-based Freedom for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has risen to Prof. Swamy’s defense.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education has spoken out against Harvard's taking any action against Swamy on the basis of his op-ed. The organization's blog noted that Swamy's op-ed calls for radical social change in India, but FIRE noted that American principles of free expression extend to calls for radical social change. As an example, it cited the legal right for people to call for the United States to become a communist country.

"We tolerate the widest possible range of political, social, cultural, and religious views because, for one thing, we trust in the marketplace of ideas to eventually sort it all out," the blog post said.

Unfortunately at Harvard, that marketplace of ideas has been censored by apologists for Islam, such as the notorious Professor Diane Eck.  . In effect, she and others like her are trespassing traditional faculty department control over curricula and appointment of scholars to teach based on their credentials and evaluations by those in the relevant field. Diana Eck has a long history of making "pluralism" her project, but the possibility that some in that pluralist stew might have some direct experience of Islam, or come from lands where Islam did great damage (as in India, if one accepts Naipaul's interpretation of India as a "wounded civilization"), and should be allowed to express those views, apparently escape her. Harvard acted like Kangaroo court, says Swamy after varsity drops him - dailypioneer.com -  Swamy said the decision was a “dangerous one” as it makes a person teaching in Harvard accountable for what he writes on any subject anywhere in the world. “If tomorrow anyone writes on India and writes rubbish about India, they come here, then they can be punished here for what they write in America. That would be a dangerous principle. Harvard should look at it,” he said. “IIT Delhi sacked me in 1973. Four years later, I became a member of the IIT Board of Governors, the very body which had sacked me,” Swamy said.

Old fashioned politics at Harvard University

But, it is a crime to say any of this. And, it is a crime to suggest that a liberal or constitutional democracy must defend itself against jihadic terrorism.

This is not true only in the Middle East or in Islamic central Asia. It is true in the major and most prestigious universities in the United States.

For example, in the summer of 2011, Yale got rid of the elegant and sophisticated Dr. Charles Small (The Yale Initiative for the Inter-disciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism), because he dared to hold a conference in which Islamic anti-Semitism and Islamic terrorism were discussed. This outraged the “Palestinians”, south-Syrians, Jordanians, and Egyptians on campus. Calls were made, letters were written.

The Ivy League professoriate, including the Jews, were exceedingly nervous about having such a politically incorrect Jew in their midst and on their faculty.

Now, Harvard has similarly dismissed a distinguished and highly respected Professor or Economics, an Indian Hindu, Professor Subramanian Swamy. He taught at Harvard for 20 years, every summer.

We do know that many professors all across America preach daily against Israel and against Jews without losing their jobs due to “hate speech” or racism.

What was his “crime?” In the wake of a second Islamic terrorist attack on Mumbai (July, 2011), in which 26 people were murdered and 130 were wounded, Professor Swamy wrote an article about this tragedy. Please recall that in 2008, Islamic jihadists launched a long and horrific attack on Mumbai, in which 164 people were murdered and 308 wounded. The Pakistani Islamist group behind this chose Mumbai because it is a densely populated commercial and entertainment center; they targeted Westerners, tourists, wealthy Indians, and, of course, Jews.

Professor Swamy, is also the President of the Janata Party and served as both India’s former minister of Commerce and Industry as well as the former minister of Law and Justice. This learned man published an op-ed piece in an Indian newspaper in which he reminded his readers of the long history of Hindu persecution at Muslim hands and of the contemporary stated intentions of Pakistani-based terrorist groups to convert all India or to kill those who resist. He suggested adopting a “Hindu mindset” as the first way of fighting back against this.

In a letter to Harvard President, Drew Gilpin Faust,  Dr. Jagan Kaul, Retired Professor of International Law and Chairman, Diversity-USA, defended Dr. Swamy’s right to hold his opinion without being dismissed because that opinion was being viewed, by some Harvard students and by a handful of highly politicized faculty, as anti-Islamic “hate speech.”

Professor Kaul writes:

“Dr. Swamy has clearly stated that ‘Islamic terrorism is India’s number one national security problem….and already the successor to Osama bin Laden as the al-Qaeda leader has declared that India is the priority target for that terrorist organization and not the USA.’  Towards the concluding portion of his analysis Dr. Swamy has summarized the goals of the Islamic terrorism in India. He believes that their number 1 goal is to overawe India on Kashmir….By demanding the abrogation of section 370 of the Indian Constitution Dr. Subramanian Swamy has been trying to reverse the dangerous advance of Wahabi Islam in the Indian sub-Continent and in the process saving the US from having to deal with one more nasty, bloody and complex development in the world.

"How unfortunate and regrettable it is that Dr. Swamy is being banished because he showed the wisdom, fortitude and guts for doing the right thing by fighting the Jihadis before it was too late.”

On December 6, 2011, Professor Swamy was formally dismissed by Harvard. I do not know if he has any legal recourse. Harvard’s reputation is certainly damaged—just as Yale’s has been.

Professor Swamy should be allowed to write op-ed pieces in India that are not held against him in the United States.

I am not sure whether he preaches against Muslims in his Economics classes. We do know that many professors all across America preach daily against Israel and against Jews without losing their jobs due to “hate speech” or racism. I do know that infidels are cursed in many mosques and madrassas and in Islamic state universities across the world. ”

This situation affects us all. The West must understand that silencing men like Professor Swamy is in a sense an act of Jihad. We are aiding the Islamic fundamentalists in their quest for domination in India and South Central Asia.

Spanish Inquisition?

“I was surprised Harvard would do this, given that the president’s office said free speech was sacred,’’ he said in an interview. “The people who cut me out are leftists who have nothing to do with economics. There’s no allegation that in my class I said anything offensive. There’s no allegation that it has affected my research. It’s almost like the Spanish Inquisition - they didn’t give me a chance.’ - Subramanium Swamy

Double standards of Leftist intellectuals

The deafening silence of the Leftist intellectuals on the issue of Harvard University faculty’s decision to effectively remove Dr Subramanian Swami from its teaching roster is in sharp contrast to the thunderous protest voiced by the same group with regards to the Delhi University’s Expert body’s decision to remove certain portions of Prof. Ramanujam’s book 300 Ramayana. Harvard’s decision to keep out Dr Swami had nothing to do with his academic standards or the content of the summer courses on economics which he was teaching for the last few decades. The decision was taken on the basis of thoroughly extraneous issues. What Dr Swami wrote in an Indian daily regarding India’s domestic affairs about which there is world wide concern, is in no way related to the subjects which he teaches at Harvard. He is considered a world famous economist and highly rated by his students in the university. Still the university, which has publicly declared its commitment to freedom of speech has not only flouted their own principles but also attempted to discredit a great academician. They have not even shown the courtesy of asking Dr Swami for an explanation.

His right to teach is made dependant on his denial to express his views.

Wherever and whenever Hinduism or Hindu culture is deliberately insulted these intellectuals come out in formidable numbers to support and encourage the same in the name of freedom of expression but when the wounded Hindu raises even his little finger he is subjected to media trial and condemned as communalist, chauvinistic and what not. Then the phrase used is not freedom of speech but instead it is labeled as ‘Hate speech’. It depends on the convenience of the intellectuals whether the expression is to be condemned as ‘Hate speech’ or to be protected under ‘Freedom of expression’.

From
Dr Mrs Hilda Raja,
Vadodara, Gujarat.

Dear Dr Faust

This is regarding the dropping of the courses undertaken by Dr Swamy in your institution.

Your prestigious university is globally acclaimed for its high standard of academic excellence and for his anchorage on values and human rights. It is this which make me write to you because one expects academic freedom as part of human rights. An institution as yours has these at its core of academic pursuits.

So it came as a shock when Dr Swamy’s courses were dropped which means that he cannot and need not any more lecture in Harvard. I have read the article Dr Swamy had written a few months ago and in fact wrote supporting the thesis of his. This because as one belonging to a minority community (Catholic Church) I have been watching
with dismay and trepidation the appeasement policy followed by my government and the driving of the Hindus as refugees and aliens in their own motherland. When one is driven to a corner it is a natural instinct to fight back for survival and this is what the Hindus are gradually realizing.

Dr Swamy’s article one may agree or disagree but it remains a global reality and an Indian fact that Islamic terror is the greatest danger. The jihadis are well trained and motivated. It is also true that Islamic terror is not the only terror--we have become victims of--there is the ‘saffron’ terror (tagged so by our Home Minister) and also the Red terror-the naxal bloodletting. For peace all these three must be tackled. But in the quantum and number of times it has been the Islamic terror which as perpetrator been a menace. Dr Swamy has brought out in his article how to confront this. May be someone should have brought out strategies to confront the other two terror outfits. This does not negate the reality that Islamic terror is on the top of the list.

One may or not agree with Dr Swamy but one cannot deny the fact that he is outspoken, clear and has no hidden agenda and was speaking out the truth. He was within his rights as a concerned Indian and the article was published in a Mumbai paper I can understand if he spoke about this within your campus .You may have your reasons but I wanted to put forth mine. I cannot for a moment think or envisage that an institution as yours will curtail the freedom of speech and expression regarding a menace that has killed and maimed hundred of Indians in this country.

While accepting the fact that you and the academic body may have your perception of the whole article and reasons for the action take I appeal to you to review the decision and stand out to the world that academic freedom is interlinked with human freedom and rights and this in no way will be compromised by Harvard.

I have been in the field of education-teaching at the masters’ level Social work at Stella Maris College (autonomous)-Chennai affiliated to the Madras University. My husband (who was also a Prof in Lit. Loyola College Chennai) and I migrated from Tamilnadu to Gujarat for the last 4 years.I would very much appreciate your positive response –namely to reinstate Dr Swamy’s courses and let the global communal get the signal clear and fine tuned that no political or any pressure will make Harvard bow to give up the soul line of all academic honesty and integrity.

With warm regards,
Dr Hilda Raja

Bomb blasts kill 17, wound 80 in Mumbai

At least three explosions tore through India’s commerce center of Mumbai on Wednesday evening, killing at least 17 people and wounding more than 80 in the city’s second terrorist attack in three years.

The rush-hour blasts occurred between 6:45 and 7 p.m. in crowded, heavily populated areas of the city. Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi confirmed that the explosions were a terrorist attack and were caused by homemade bombs.

Prithviraj Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra state, where Mumbai is located, said 17 people were killed and nearly 100 wounded in the attacks. Tallies of the dead and wounded were expected to rise through the night. A senior police official in Mumbai said the explosions rocked the Dadar West, Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar areas of the city.

The Home Ministry said it suspect the bombings were conducted by the Indian Mujahideen, a front group of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. Mumbai was targeted by terrorists in November 2008, when 10 militants armed with assault rifles and grenades waged a three-day siege of luxury hotels, a Jewish center and other sites downtown. They killed 166 people including six Americans. More than 300 people were wounded in the assault.

Wednesday evening’s attack occurred in crowded places during the rush hour.

Police, firefighters, rescue teams and ordinary residents scrambled to clear the areas and take the injured to hospitals.

“We first thought it is a cylinder blast. Then people started running everywhere. They were in blood. I put eight of them in cabs,” said an eyewitness in Zaveri Bazaar area who identified himself only as Suraj.

One blast occurred in a car in Dadar West near a railway station in central Mumbai, while one in Zaveri Bazaar took place in a jewelry shop, witnesses said. Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House are in south Mumbai. Zaveri Bazaar is the hub of the jewelry trade in the city, and Opera House is an upscale area that is known for its Bollywood film industry and headquarters of the large corporations. Mumbai and other Indian cities were put on high alert after the blasts. India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been sent to Mumbai to probe the attacks.

The iconoclast and the yogi

Husain's Lack of Respect for Hinduism

The paintings of MF Husain and SH Raza, both Indians, both Muslims, offer a study in contrast. While Husain left India after denigrating icons held sacred by Hindus and trampling on their sensitivities, Raza returned home from France to explore and embrace the richness of Hindu spirituality. Husain and controversy courted each other. Raza is spending the twilight years of his life looking into the ‘soul of things'

The recent demise of MF Husain in London, where he was residing of late, was preceded by the homecoming of his peer and noted artist SH Raza earlier this year. In January, 89-year-old Raza relocated from Paris, where he had been living for 60 years, hoping to spend the remaining years of his life in India. The journeys of India’s two stalwart painters — Maqbool Fida Husain (1915-2011) and Syed Haidar Raza (born in 1922) — are indeed a study in contrast. It is a vital input in understanding the debate over Husain’s artistic liberty versus the right to offend Hindu sensibilities.

Husain and Raza were co-founders of Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group (1947-1956) along with KH Ara, SK Bakre, HA Gade and Francis Newton Souza. Husain was a self-taught artist who once painted film hoarding, whereas Raza had complete formal training at Nagpur School of Art and Sir JJ School of Art, and later went to the distinguished ENSB-A in Paris on a French scholarship.

After Souza left for London in 1949 and Raza for Paris in 1950, Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group ‘progressively’ moved towards dissolution. Yet, this short-lived association of radical painters could take credit for ‘inventing’ modernism in Indian art. Husain stayed back in India, though since his first solo exhibition in Zurich in 1952, his fame travelled places. He rose to become the best-known artist of India at home and abroad.

Both Husain and Raza hailed from Muslim families. Islam permits only ‘aniconic’ art, or art bereft of any graphic representation of living or imagined beings. In fact, the sole art form that developed in 7th century Arabia was poetry recitation, which later grew into ‘kissagoi’ or story-telling — like the theme of the Arabian Nights.

The Prophetic traditions explicitly forbade singing, dancing, painting and theatre. This was possibly done to prevent any softening of theological-military zeal of the adherents.

Individual fame, a European Renaissance concept, is alien to Indian artistic tradition.
Art, as the Indian understanding goes, should elevate and not denigrate.

But as the ambit of Islam widened, primarily as a result of military conquests, the conquerors came into contact with superior civilisations. They slowly absorbed many of their cultural elements in spheres of architecture, music, dance, literature and the fine arts. A slender stream of this acculturalisation was visible in India notwithstanding the iconoclastic policies of the Muslim rulers.

The all encompassing relationship among humankind, god and nature which was reflected in the art, music, literature and festivals of India did not fail to impress them. The neo-converts to Islam often retained elements from their Hindu past. The first recognisable figure of this acculturalisation was poet Amir Khusrau who was born at Patiali (near Etah) in Brajbhumi to a Turkish father and Hindu mother. He revered Brahmins for their scholarship, was familiar with specialties of Hinduism and loved Hindu festivals. Then there were Mulk Mohammed Jayasi, author of Padmavat; Abdurrahim Khankahna who composed dohas; and, Ras Khan whose poems were dipped in devotion to Krishna. Their profound familiarity with Hindu legends, symbology and spiritual doctrine continues to amaze us.

Dhrupad and Dhamar, and later Khayal, flourished in Mughal courts and so did the dance form of Kathak. In Andhra, the munificence of monarch Abul Hasan Tanesha led to the renaissance of the classical dance form called Kuchipudi which entails vachik abhinay or speech enabled acting, something censured in Islam. Painting, also forbidden in Islam, was patronised by the Mughal courts. The concepts of Mughal miniature, portraiture and book illustration were derived from Persia (Iran), which though Islamised retained its pre-Islamic culture.

It is against this backdrop we must view the antipodal stories of Husain and Raza. Both began as modern painters but were ultimately drawn to the reservoir of Hindu themes. But their similarities end at that point. In one interview Husain said he had read Hindu texts, knew Sanskrit and travelled around India to study temple art forms.

He was born at Pandharpur, a pilgrimage centre associated with several Marathi saints like Eknath, Namdev and Tukaram. Yet, it is ironical that he earned notoriety by using sacred Hindu icons only to denigrate them.

Husain’s paintings of Durga, Saraswati, Hanuman, Sita and Krishna — often misleadingly described by the media as being depicted in the ‘nude’ — are exercises in perversity and obscenity. Even newspapers and magazine shy away from reproducing them. They are the products of a perverted mind. Husain’s towering stature as an artist is a poor excuse to justify such artistic profligacy.

Common men make common mistakes, great men make great mistakes.

Individual fame, a European Renaissance concept, is alien to Indian artistic tradition. Art, as the Indian understanding goes, should elevate and not denigrate.

Raza’s artistic quest is one of ascension of consciousness. While living in France he had begun to move away from European expressionism and started incorporating elements from tantra in his works. Raza, increasingly dissatisfied with the ‘shallowness’ of his ‘plastic’ art, began visiting India since the 1970s. He visited Ajanta-Ellora, Varanasi, Gujarat and Rajasthan to deepen his understanding of Indian art.

His quest culminated with the rediscovery of ‘Bindu’ (the vortex of energy and creativity) which gave him a sense of being reborn as a painter. To this Raza later added ‘Tribhuj’ (triangle), and ‘Prakriti-Purusha’ (Nature-Divinity relationship) which elevated his art to a philosophical plane. Since 2000, his work has depicted Kundalini, Nagas and themes from Mahabharat.

After returning to India in January, Raza said that he had retained his Indian citizenship despite living in France for six decades. He had married French artist and sculptor Janine Mongillat in 1959; she died in 2002. He maintained his relationship with India despite his brothers migrating to Pakistan after independence. He reads the Bhagavad Gita and Ramayan, and continues to read and write in Hindi. Raza today has gained a yogic insight into the ‘soul of things’. It is a pity that Husain chose Qatari citizenship and squandered away such an opportunity.

Varanasi Ghat Among Threatened World Heritage Sites

The 18th century Balaji Ghat, situated along the river Ganges in Varanasi, is among over 60 endangered cultural heritage sites in the world that are in dire need of preservation, according to World Monuments Fund (WMF), a private foundation.

WMF said, Balaji ghat is an "important example of the buildings constructed along the Ganges to serve pilgrims worshiping at the holy river" in Varanasi, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Collapse of the main building of Balaji ghat, likely from decay of the wood, points to inadequate conservation, maintenance as well as poor heritage protection, it said.

"Inclusion in the watch will support a plan to restore the building for use as a cultural centre and help to continue an ancient tradition of pilgrimage and enlightenment."

"The World Monuments Watch is a call to action on behalf of endangered cultural-heritage sites across the globe. And while these sites are historic, they are also very much of the present--integral parts of the lives of the people who come into contact with them every day," WMF President Bonnie Burnham said.

Husain and the assault against Hindu India

IT is amusing to observe so many ardent nationalists, who once made modest professional careers by proclaiming sympathy for Hindu interests, lining up to celebrate the departed Maqbool Fida Husain’s highly provocative depiction of venerated Hindu goddesses. None of them are evidently qualified to judge artistic merit, but are trotting out the tired repudiation of critics with the implied solemn query ‘when did you last beat your wife’, as a defense of Husain’s license to do as he pleased.

They do not hesitate to excoriate what one described as Internet Hindus, as if the appellation had explanatory power beyond the mundane fact that practising Hindus, irrespective of qualification, are rarely allowed a voice in India’s purchased print media and television channels. One journalist with elevated connections to Hindutva nationalism insinuated on NDTV that the Hindutva brigade ‘hounding’ Husain was akin to Nazism of the 1930s (only seeking legal opinion in the courts as it happens and occasionally disrupting exhibitions). He is apparently in need of education on what transpired in mid-1930s Germany.

The implication that artistic freedom is an absolute right and has ever been anywhere merely exposes the illogic of these venerable gentlemen.

Artistic freedoms are, in principle, bounded by written and unwritten convention and social consensus. It is not acceptable in most societies to depict the rape of a child or grossly provocative images of sexual congress or indeed celebrate grotesque violence. The boundaries may differ in time and space, but they exist and artists themselves conform, though some may childishly proclaim they should be allowed complete freedom to flout them. As it happens, they don’t or only very rarely and face legal or social sanctions if they do, even if they allegedly sup with the gods to justify demanding exemption from all restraint. Artistic freedom is not an absolute except in the minds of overwrought journalists unable to see the wood for the trees. When artistic freedom is defended in a specific case what is actually being argued is that a particular portrayal or expression is within prevailing conventions of societal restraint. Imperious claims otherwise regarding artistic license, etc. betray disingenuousness.

The terrain limiting artistic license imposed by convention and social consensus has been somewhat fluid in independent India.

Offending Islam and Christianity was considered in poor taste since they were minority faiths and the adherents of the former were also able to enforce their notions of probity by recourse to murder and mayhem, if necessary. Hence, the banning of Salman Rushdie’s admittedly mediocre books and the incarceration and subsequent expulsion from India of the incredibly courageous Taslima Nasrin. But Hindus have always been fair game. The most vicious and tasteless mockery of all things Hindu have occurred with official complicity. In the past two decades, the most egregious examples of calumny (Ramakrishna sexually abusing Vivekananda, etc. etc.) have emanated from belligerently Christian, America and its hallowed Ivy League academic portals, supported by treasonous Leftist, Indians fattened on their payrolls, whether it is the US Congress library or universities.

Much of this project to demonise and de-legitimise India and its civilizational claims originated in an Anglo-American Cold War attempt to offer succour to a Pakistan that proved so very difficult to sell. Now it also has the wholesale imprimatur of India’s ruling family, open season in other words on a scale unknown since the iconoclastic Ghaznavid and Aurangzeb cataclysms.

The argument is that either Husain painting the venerated divinities of the Hindu pantheon in the most offensive manner possible is legitimate or that is not what he had intended to convey. Of course there is, in addition, an unspoken undertone that Husain towers over all artistic achievement in the history of India and mere unwashed Hindus have no right to complain in any case. Indeed Indian journalists have taken to comparing him to Picasso, highlighting their impoverished education and of course an oriental penchant for hyperbole that invariably causes mirth around the world. I suspend aesthetic judgement for the moment on all Husain’s paintings of various Hindu goddesses, but two of them seem poignantly unambiguous in intent. The one of a naked Sita sitting on Ravan’s lap depicts the aftermath of rape. Would such a portrayal for public viewing of even an actual occurrence be reasonable if the victim were a close relative, leave aside a revered deity unless the purpose is to mock?

Refer to The Plunder of Art - By Hamendar Bhisham Pal and European, American Museums: Fortified Havens For Plunder From India – By Radha Rajan.

The one of a naked Brahmin alongside a clothed Muslim potentate highlights utter powerlessness (which is the usual situational meaning of nakedness in this context) with the Brahmin deprived of all humanity because he is unclothed. The Nazis routinely stripped completely naked Jewish victims (of both sexes and all ages) captured at random in streets before piling them into the backs of lorries en route to death camps. It was done to eliminate all possibility of protest, resistance or escape because in one stroke the person had already been dehumanised, murdered socially, in effect and could only contemplate suicide (the victims included women in their seventies alongside their grandchildren)

Historically, Renaissance painters have depicted the divine in the nude, but the context is important. In the case of Husain there is absence of a fully ‘fleshed’ humanised torso in his paintings and he merely sketches outlines. It may indicate lack of skill to depict the complexity of a fully formed human body, which could embody multiple meanings. Or Husain is deliberately displaying deities in humiliating sexual poses in outline because he is afraid of going beyond venal suggestion. Bear in mind insinuation of bestial copulation was not a motif in the anti-clerical rebellion of Renaissance painters showing Greek gods in nude poses. It is also relevant that some account need be taken of profound Hindu sensibilities, which, in his case, as a sectarian Muslim, is clearly one of complete disregard and utter contempt for the Hindu universe. But the devout Hindu need not be unduly dispirited by Husain’s shameful insults to his revered deities since the Lord Krishna proclaims in the fourth discourse of the Bhagavadgita: “Nor do actions pollute Me, nor is the fruit of action desired by me.”

In the final analysis, Husain should be allowed the last word on his own intentions before aspersions are hastily cast on his Islamic credentials and religiously sanctioned hostility to pagan worship. Nehurvian secularists in Rajat Sharma’s ‘Aap ki Adalat’(on 4.9. 2004) audience clapped when Husain explained that he’d painted Hitler in the nude because Hitler was a “shaitan” (evil exposed? nakedly evil?). But they didn’t insist he answer when someone asked whether the goddesses he painted naked were therefore evil too? This is the same Husain who promptly withdrew a film because Ulema had claimed a song in it was blasphemous. He also revealed to the audience that actually it was an alim attempting to extort money and paintings from him. But his Nehruvian-secular admirers in the audience who defended his aesthetic right to paint Hindu goddesses naked did not leap to his defence by attacking the alim who’d dared to blackmail him? Because the alim is a Mussulman gentleman?”

In conclusion, it might be noted that Husain paintings sold for paltry sums until he achieved notoriety in the wake of the fortuitous controversy over his depictions of nude Hindu goddesses engaged in bestiality. Recent buyers paying high prices for his paintings, the mundane reason for the sudden elevation of his artistic reputation and imbecilic comparisons to Picasso, are invariably Indian businessmen. Someone needs to explain how the likes of the businessman who recently built a billion dollar monstrosity in Mumbai to live in are bestowed with capacity for judging works of art. Their familiar nouveau riche interest in decorating their homes with expensive objects, preferably from abroad, is the universal pining of the arriviste, i.e. keeping up with the Joneses, er, Mehtas. Much more interestingly, the training manual of a major international bank has a section on compliance that alerts employees to black money, originating in over-invoiced sales abroad, being used by Indian businessmen to purchase works of art from fellow citizens at foreign auction houses. The proceeds of the arbitrarily inflated price paid for the object purchased is then donated tax-free by the grateful artist to an Indian domiciled charity of the businessman’s choice. In exchange the artist earns a handsome fee and an enhanced reputation that leads to an overall rise in prices paid for future creations of the hitherto obscure genius. This is why it would be pertinent to know how many major international collectors have paid good money for a Husain creation.

Bogus posturing of India's pretentious intellectuals

Predictably public discourse following the death of Maqbool Fida Husain has been reduced to an utterly banal and ill-informed debate on ‘tolerance’ and ‘freedom of expression’. It’s the same ‘good Muslim’ versus ‘bad Hindu’ story told all over again by pretentious intellectuals masquerading as keepers of liberal and secular values who don’t even know that the artist whose works are immortalised on the ceiling of Sistine Chapel was called Michelangelo and not Michaelangelo. The twin issues of free speech and freedom of expression are far more complex and crucial to ensure that the flame of liberty is not snuffed out to be left to liberals whose liberalism extends to having their say and imposing their will and no farther than that. For beneath their sophistry lies a deep hatred towards anybody who dares question their bogus posturing or speaks his or her mind freely, regardless of consequences, which is as free speech should be. Sadly, many of those who valiantly battle the repressive tendencies of the Left-liberal mob suffer from the same affliction, or a variant of it, justifying their vituperation as an equal and opposite reaction.

Rid of all mumbo-jumbo with which we tend to clutter simple ideas that form the bedrock of noble concepts like liberty, equality and fraternity, free speech means the right to freely speak one’s mind, to express thoughts and opinions without any restraints. Integral to free speech (as also freedom of expression) is the right to offend; if what is said or depicted amounts to offending the sensitivities of a community or the sensibilities of an individual, those offended must learn to live with contrarian points of view and conflicting interpretations. The freedom to speak and express one’s mind is an inalienable right and matured democracies which believe liberty cannot be quantified or limited unless it promotes that which is considered morally repugnant and socially abhorrent — for instance, child pornography, sexual abuse and racism, to cite a few examples — robustly defend both free speech and freedom of expression.

Unfortunately, freedoms that are guaranteed to the citizens of the world’s largest democracy by their Constitution are often curtailed for reasons which fly in the face of liberty. Recall how the Government headed by Rajiv Gandhi had imposed a ban on Salman Rushdie’s novel, The Satanic Verses, even before bonfires were made of copies of the book in Bradford by Muslim immigrants who would be hard put to read it cover to cover. While Iran came to the world’s notice with Ayatollah Khomeini issuing a fatwa sanctioning Rushdie’s murder, India came to enjoy the dubious distinction of becoming the first country to ban The Satanic Verses. Now contrast these responses with the reaction of the British Government. Mrs Margaret Thatcher, who was then Prime Minister, not only defended Rushdie and took on Iran’s mullah brigade but also ordered full protection for the author, including arranging for safe houses for him. And all this despite the fact that Rushdie was among the strongest and most outspoken critics of Mrs Thatcher, rarely if ever missing an opportunity to offend her and her Conservative Government’s policies. Compare that to a cussed Government of India refusing to issue a visa to Rushdie; he had to wait till 1998 when Mr Jaswant Singh, as Minister for External Affairs, struck down the dumb ‘policy’ that prevented a person to visit the country of his origin simply because he had offended those who hadn't even read The Satanic Verses, including the Left-liberal commentariat.

We could cite numerous other examples of the Government and other institutions of the state bending over backwards to appease the easily offended by circumscribing the liberty of those who believe in free speech and freedom of expression. Few would remember today a celebrated — and controversial — case of 1985 when a petition was filed in the Calcutta High Court, seeking the judiciary’s opinion on certain passages of the Quran which were quoted verbatim in the petition. The judge who heard the case waxed eloquent on faith, made high falutin comments, and dismissed the petition. Later, the petitioner, Chandmal Chopra, along with popular historian Sita Ram Goel, published the court documents, including the petition, as a book. Chopra was arrested; Goel was declared an ‘absconder’. In more recent times, a huge mob of Muslims attacked Statesman House in central Kolkata in February 2009, claiming their sensitivities had been hurt and faith defamed by The Statesman which had reproduced an article by Johann Hari, “Why should I respect these oppressive religions”, from The Independent. The newspaper’s editor and publisher were arrested; they had to issue a groveling apology.

Less than two years before that incident, in November 2007, dissident Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen was forced to leave Kolkata, the city which she had made her home after being chased out of Bangladesh for her novel Lajja, following a CPI(M)-manufactured riot over her book Dwikhondito two years after the High Court had lifted the ban imposed on it by the then Left Front Government. Strangely, or perhaps not so, the UPA regime in New Delhi wanted her to leave India — the Congress did not want to offend its then ‘natural ally’, the CPI(M). Thankfully, that move has since been scuttled by saner elements. We also have the example of Congress Chief Ministers tripping over each other to ban The Da Vinci Code, an absurd action aimed more at currying favour with their party president than smoothening ruffled feathers of the Church.

Nor should we forget the strange spectacle of Ms Margaret Alva standing up in the Rajya Sabha and demanding a ban on the book Hindu Temples: What Happened to Them even before its publication.

It serves little or no purpose to say this today, but those who are shedding crocodile tears for MF Husain, lamenting that he was ‘forced’ to leave India and live his last years in exile — he insisted his departure was voluntary; there are suggestions he fled on being told of an imminent inquiry into money-laundering and tax-fraud by some big corporate houses facilitated by him — were stunningly silent when free speech and freedom of expression were being ruthlessly trampled upon by the state, its agencies and institutions, denying others the same right which they believe the artist was entitled to. A prominent Bengali newspaper which has been extremely acerbic in denouncing Husain’s critics forgets that it dropped Taslima Nasreen’s column rather than risk the ire of goons who can’t even spell her name, not even in Urdu.

But two wrongs don’t make a right. Husain chose to offend Hindu sensitivities while exercising his freedom of expression — whether he did so wittingly or unwittingly is a matter of irrelevant debate. The correct response would have been to ignore him. After all, this is the land where Charvaks have preached that there’s nothing divine about religion, that the authors of the Vedas were “buffoons, knaves and demons”. A close scrutiny of Swami Vivekananda’s writings and speeches would show he often militated against conventional wisdom. The Bengal Renaissance, or the Awakening, was more about repudiation than endorsement; the Brahmo Samaj found a place within the larger Hindu samaj despite its rejection of everything that the Hindu orthodoxy stood for. We really don’t need to compete with those who teach their children that “Jews are apes and Christians are pigs”, as is taught to toddlers at King Fahd Academy in Acton, and believe that Hinduism is not worthy of recognition as either a faith or a way of life. They are worthy of neither emulation nor applause.

Christian Denigration of Indian Spiritual Dance

“The god of the Holy Bible – so much adored in the United States and elsewhere – is ferociously vindictive, neurotically jealous, intolerant, vainglorious, punitive, wrathful, sexist, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sadistic, and homicidal. As they say, it’s all in the Bible.”

"The root of toxic evangelization is the arrogant, ego-based belief that Christianity is better than other religions. This attitude is used to justify the aggressive tactics used to destroy indigenous cultures and attack other religions. "

Cultural Vandalism of India

Excerpts from "Breaking India: Western Interventions in Dravidian and Dalit Faultlines," by Malhotra, Rajiv and Aravindan Neelakandan, Amaryllis Publishers, Delhi, 2011

From the 17th century onwards, Christian missionaries made scathing attacks on the Indian classical dance form seeing it as a heathen practice. This was often expressed by attacking the devadasi system on the grounds of human rights. The devadasis were temple dancers, dedicated in childhood to a particular deity. The system was at its peak in the 10th and 11th centuries, but a few hundred years later, the traditional system of temples protected by powerful kings had faded away under Mughal rule especially since the Mughals turned it into popular entertainment devoid of spirituality. The devadasi system degenerated in some cases into temple dancers used for prostitution, although the extent of this was exaggerated by the colonialists.

Many of the English educated elites of India accepted the colonial condemnation of their heritage and apologized for its "primitiveness." Some of them turned into Hindu reformers, and found the devadasi system detestable for moral and even social-hygienic reasons. However the devadasis saw their very existence threatened and sent handwritten pleas to the colonial government explaining the spiritual foundation of Bharatha Natyam. They quoted Siva from the Saiva Agamas saying, “To please me during my puja, arrangements must be made daily for shudda nritta (dance). This should be danced by females born of such families and the five acharyas should form the accompaniments.” Since these Agamas are revered by every Hindu, the devadasis asked, “What reason can there be for our community not to thrive and exist as necessary adjuncts of temple service?” They opposed the proposed draconian punishment for performing their tradition, calling the legislation "unparalleled in the civilized world.”

Instead of abolition of their traditional profession, they demanded better education to restore their historical status. They wanted the religious, literary and artistic education as in the past, saying, "Instill into us the Gita and the beauty of the Ramayana and explain to us the Agamas and the rites of worship.” This would inspire devadasi girls to model themselves after female saints like Maitreyi, Gargi and Manimekalai and the women singers of the Vedas, such that,

“we might once again become the preachers of morality and religion... You who boast of your tender love for small communities, we pray that you may allow us to live and work out our salvation and manifest ourselves in jnana and bhakti and keep alight the torch of India's religion amidst the fogs and storms of increasing materialism and interpret the message of India to the world."

Despite such attempts, the missionary influence continued to dominate Bharata Natyam came to be seen as immoral and facing almost certain extinction. For example, a Dravidianist supported by missionary scholarship called the dance "the lifeline that encourages the growth of prostitution."

However, Hindu savants worked tirelessly to remove the Christian slurs cast on this art form. Chief among them was Rukmini Devi Arundale (1904-1986) who protected and revived this dance by founding the Kalakshetra Academy of Dance and Music in 1936. She made it an acceptable norm for girls (and even boys) from middle class households to learn Bharat Natyam. Though operated like a modern institution, it functioned as a traditional gurukula with prayers before the deity Ganapati, vegetarianism, and a guru-shishya relationship. Throughout Tamil Nadu the guru-shishya form of decentralized one-on-one learning spread in various ways as part of this revival. Thus, far from being dead as intended by missionaries, colonialists and their Indian cronies, Bharat Natyam again became well established as a spiritual art form in South India, and started to achieve acclaim throughout India and abroad. Kalakshetra grew into a university with a large campus in Chennai.

Subtle Christian Appropriation of Hindu Dance

In recent years, missionaries are again targeting Bharat Natyam. But this time as a takeover candidate for digestion into Christianity. This reversal of strategy is in response to the growing enthusiasm for Bharat Natyam, including among many Western feminists who see Indian dance as a valorization of feminine sexuality.[5] Westerners took up this dance initially showing respect for Hindu practices and symbols, and studied under Hindu gurus who naively welcomed the Christian disciples. Each of the individuals who are at the forefront of Christianizing the Bharata Natyam today was initially taught by Hindu gurus.[6] In India there are many unsuspecting, or perhaps opportunistic, Hindu gurus who take this genre of Christian students under their wings. These Christian disciples worked very hard and many became exemplars, dancing to Hindu themes and enthralling the media and audiences.

However, they ran into conflicts between traditional Hindu art and Christian aesthetics and dogma. Father Francis Barboza, a prominent Roman Catholic priest and dancer of Hindu art forms, confesses that "the main difficulty I faced in the area of technique" concerned what is Indian classical dance's unique feature, namely, the hand gestures (hasta) and postures. He confesses:

I could use all of them in the original form except for the Deva hasta [hand gestures], because the nature and significance of the Bible personalities are totally different and unique. Hence, when I wanted to depict Christ, the Christian Trinity (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit), I drew a blank. I realised that I had to invent new Deva Hasta to suit the Divine personalities and concepts of the Christian religion. This was a challenge to my creative, intellectual and theological background. Armed with my knowledge of Christian Theology and in depth studies of ancient dance treatises, I then introduced a number of Deva Hasta to suit the personalities of the Bible. These innovations succeeded in making my presentation both genuinely Indian and Christian in content and form.

Dr. Barboza has Christianized the Bharatha Natyam by inventing the following Christian Mudras: God the Father; Son of God; The Holy Spirit; The Risen Christ; Mother Mary; The Cross; Madonna; The Church;  and The Word of God, as well as two postures, Crucifixion and The Risen Christ. This strategy is strikingly similar to the development of “Christian Yoga” and “Jewish Yoga” by western practitioners who take what they want from yoga but reject or replace any symbols or concepts that are too explicitly Hindu.

Blatantly Rejecting Hinduism while Christianizing the Bharat Natyam

Rani David, the founder of Kalairani Natya Saalai in Maryland, USA, (strategically located right next to a prominent Hindu temple) is even more blatant about Christianizing the Bharata Natyam. Her website does not hesitate to reveal her disdain of Hindu symbols that are a part of Bharatha Natyam, and her vow to remove them from the dance. She wants to make Bharat Natyam non-Hindu:

At one of the elaborate 'Salangai poojai', in spite of her conviction, she was embarrassed because her Christian values would not permit her to bow down before a statue, whether one of Nataraja, Mary or even Jesus Christ. It was then that she vowed to herself that one day she would fashion this beautiful art into one that could not be exclusively claimed by any one religion. That vow began its fulfillment at Edwina Bhaskaran's arengetram in '92 when a patham on Christ, 'Yesuvaiyae thoothi sei', was included.

But her initial posture of pluralism leads to an exclusively Christian dance as an “innovation,” of which she is proud: Edwina’s grandfather, Elder Edwin, congratulated Rani and inquired, ‘can you stage a full program with only Christian items?’. Consequently, 'Yesu-Yesu-Yesu' a two hour program on Christ was innovated and staged first in Maryland and then taken on tour to many parts of USA.. Rani David is also proud of her collaborations with Father Barboza and other Indian Christians.

Catholic Church involved in Kudankulam Nuclear Plant agitation

The Prime Minister, if he is committed to secular[ism], that is, not prejudiced against the majority Hindu community and biased in favour of the Christians because they are patrons of Ms. Sonia Gandhi, should put an end to this condemnable negotiation on the viability of the Kudankulam Plant. The Church has no business to decide whatsoever on whether a new reactor set up after Government approval is to be opposed or supported. Let the Catholic Church restrict itself to religious matters otherwise persons like myself would be free to investigate the practices of the Church such as in appointment of Bishops on direction from the Vatican, and receipt of funds from abroad.

Supreme Court of India compromises its courage

The Supreme Court shocked the Hindu community when on 25 Jan. 2011, it succumbed to pressure from Christian activists and modified its 21 Jan. 2011 judgment in the Graham Staines murder case, without the filing of a curative petition by any party to the case; without notice to the lawyers of convicted Rabindra Kumar Pal (alias Dara Singh) and Mahendra Hembram; and without reference to representatives of the Hindu community which is the target and victim of Christian conversions in India.

The burning to death of missionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons while they were asleep in their vehicle at Manoharpur village, district Keonjhar, Orissa, on 22 Jan. 1999, was a grim response to missionary provocation in the state.

It was a unique crime in modern India, matched only by the burning alive of Malegaon additional district collector Yashwant Sonawane by the oil mafia on 25 Jan. 2011.

The Justice D.P. Wadhwa Commission of Enquiry, which submitted its report on 21 June 1999, found evidence of the sustained missionary activity of late Graham Staines in the form of his dispatches to Australian missionary magazine, Tidings, reports of his colleagues, evidence of his wife, and others.

Sustained missionary activity of late Graham Staines

In its original verdict, the apex court observed, "the intention was to teach a lesson to Graham Staines about his religious activities, namely, converting poor tribals to Christianity.

Secondly, the sentence, "It is undisputed that there is no justification for interfering in someone's belief by way of use of force, provocation, conversion, incitement or upon a flawed premise that one religion is better than the other.

The apex court's original assertions came as a balm to the Hindu community that has long been battered by jihad and crusade simultaneously; but were bitterly attacked by Christian activists. In a flurry of denunciations in the secular media, Fr. Dominic Emmanuel, chief spokesman, New Delhi Roman Catholic Archdiocese, said the bench's statement that "the intention was to teach a lesson to Graham Staines about his religious activities, namely, converting poor tribals to Christianity…" and "…flawed premise that one religion is better than the other" came as "a shock to all those who believe in India's secular spirit and Constitution" (Deccan Chronicle, 24 Jan. 2011).

Former journalist B.G. Verghese said attenuation of the punishment because of Graham Staines' converting poor tribals to Christianity was an "appalling statement and should be expunged or reversed by a larger bench…" He condemned anti-conversion laws in some states (Deccan Herald).

Cardinal Oswald Gracias, president, Bishops Conference of India Mumbai said the judgment "seems to justify inter-religious and anti-Christian violence" (AsiaNews). The All India Christian Council, Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) and Civil Society joined the fray. The latter said "The Supreme Court ruling may in fact send the wrong signals to courts trying cases of religious violence in Kandhamal, for instance… It also tends to pre-empt possible challenges to the black laws enacted by many states in the guise of Freedom of Religion Bills. … We expect the government to ask the Supreme Court to expunge the unnecessary, uncalled for and unconstitutional remarks".

Perhaps the Centre, controlled by an Italian-born Roman Catholic with obliging minions, did 'lean on' the Hon'ble Court and ensure prompt redressal of Christian grievances, even at the cost of compromising basic principles of the constitution, and the Fundamental Rights of India's beleaguered native community, particularly weaker sections like tribals who are continuously preyed upon by the gargantuan international soul-harvesting industry.

Conversions always produce social strife and disharmony. Staines' writings home reflect his awareness of the deep unhappiness he had stirred in the region. The brutal murder of Swami Laxmanananda at Kandhamal in 2008 shows how unsafe Hindu leaders are when fighting conversions; the verdict in this case now worries the church.

Sadly, the Supreme Court has compromised its courage at a very critical hour.

The disappearing dance of the devdasis and inherent narrow mindedness of Monotheism

For centuries devadasis played a special role in Hindu temples rituals in India, but since being banned in 1947, much of their history and art have been forgotten.

Devadasi ("Servant of God") is an old Hindu tradition in which girls were 'married' and dedicated to a God or to a temple. The tradition includes dance performances in temples as well as in courts and in private homes. The girls learned various classical Indian art traditions and enjoyed a high social status.

"In the Western narrow mind, 'devadasi' is just a monolithic term for prostitute," says Saskia Kersenboom, a long-time student of devadasi dance and a professor at the University of Amsterdam. His work dispels the prejudice. "They were really professional artists and ritual specialists. The core of their dance was this professionalism."

Kersenboom's teacher bequeathed to her a dance manuscript handwritten by her teacher's grandmother. Last year Kersenboom carried that to India with the hope of reviving the disappearing dance. With the support of a Dutch organisation called Theatre Embassy, she found a pair of elderly musicians who had once accompanied devadasi performers. Their two recent performances in southern India were well received.

Kersenboom says she saw no real interest in a revival of devadasi arts. But she has not given up entirely. Working with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, she plans to publish the dance manuscript from her teacher. For posterity, they are also planning to produce a video of her dancing with the temple musicians.

Nepalese women observe Haritalika Teej festival with fanfare

Kathmandu, Aug. 31 -- Nepali Hindu women all across the country and abroad are celebrating their greatest festival Haritalika Teej with much fanfare and zeal on Wednesday.

Teej is precisely a three-day festival that falls on the end of August or early September. This year's Haritalika Teej falls on Wednesday.

Tuesday was "Dar Khane Din"- which is actually a merry-making celebration with delicious feast. Wednesday is the "fasting day." On this day, Hindu women in red attire with gold jewelry are thronging at Pashupatinath, singing and taking a series of rhythmical steps to the tunes of folk devotional songs.

On the day of Teej, married women fast for their husband's long life and good health, while the unmarried fast for the sake of getting a good husband. "Teej" is a small red insect that comes out of the soil during monsoon.

The festival is however marked with a hardcore fasting on which women fast even without taking a drop of water and some consider even swallowing saliva as a sin. On the eve of Teej festival, women feast heavily and adhere to stringent fasting Wednesday.

According to Hindu myth, it is believed that Goddess Parvati had taken similar fast on this very day to get Lord Shiva as her husband. And from that time, the festival commemorates Parvati's union with Lord Shiva.

The capital city Kathmandu has been overcrowded with women clad in red saris worshipping Lord Shiva in every corner of the city, especially the temple of Lord Pashupatinath. About 300,000 Hindu women are expected to visit the holy Pashupatinath temple in the capital Kathmandu during the festival this year for worshipping.

Sudeshna Thapa, a Doctor by profession said she has a great belief over lord Shiva and that is the reason she fast every year. "I am unmarried but I have not fast for getting a good husband. However it is the tradition that I am following which gives me happiness and peace of mind," she said. Thapa said she has taken a fast without a single drop of water and she has been doing this since a long time period.

The festival will end on Friday by celebrating "Rishi Panchami" festival, which is a day to perform the Teej Puja.
