10 Year Anniversary
Ten years ago, I posted a one-page compilation of quotes regarding
Hinduism from noted scholars on a newsgroup. It is hard to imagine that
this simple
text would later transform into a fully functional website, much less my life’s
work.
A Tribute to Hinduism was born out of a curiosity and desire to explore an
area that many had failed to properly represent.
After some success with the newsgroup posting, I decided to create a
personal webpage to present this information to a wider audience. In the fall of
1996, the first version of A Tribute to Hinduism was uploaded to the Internet.
At that time, the site only featured the original newsgroup quotes, but led me
to further research as I began studying this subject more extensively, scouring public and college libraries
for more and more information. With every new book came new and fresh ideas for
pieces to
add to the site. After a decade, this site now resides under a new name,
with new designs and additional content.
The new color scheme uses saffron to reflect our Sun (Surya),
the solar
system and blue for the Supreme and Serene Lord Vishnu, the preserver of our
universe (one of the three aspects of Eternal Reality). Although
the site encompasses much more than I ever would have hoped for, it still
captures the spirit of that initial newsgroup
posting -- that every culture, every religion has untold rewards and should be
shared with all; and that this vast, abstract and profound knowledge of the Hindu traditions belongs to
all humanity.
